Is it possible to DIY my own ringtone?

When taking subway, I often heard the same sound as my iPhone ringtone, then I feel it's my phone ringing. It turns out to be not. It happens so many times and I really fed up with it. Now I want to DIY my own ringtone. Anyone do me a favor?
