Trying to restore Jailbroken iPhone 5

I jailbroke my iPhone 5 some time ago and now I am trying to restore the phone, but iTunes does not recognize the device except to charge the phone. I have put my phone in what i believe is the Recovery mode( the iTunes logo with the lighting connector is showing), iTunes still does not recognize the phone. I think i may have also limited my chances because i manually deleted everything off my phone to include Cydia. I am thinking this might be a hardware issue, any advice/opinons/ideas??????
