iPhone 3 running iOS 7.1.2?

I was in the process of jailbreaking a friend's iPhone with Pangu and discovered that he actually had an iPhone 3 in a 4 body and it was running iOS 7.1.2. The jailbreak didn't take, but at the time I didn't realize it was a iPhone 3 until I tried to redo the jailbreak and noticed on the Pangu status bar on my computer screen that his phone was identified as a 3. Is this possible? Question 2: Is there a way to jailbreak his phone even though it's pretty much an obsolete generation? Thanks!

iPhone 3 in an iPhone 4 body? The fact that it is running iOS 7.1.2 suggests that it is at least an iPhone 4, as iPhone 3GS is not compatible with it. You can look at the model number at the back to find out.

You can check this article to identify the model number:

Note the internal model numbers for iPhone 4 is iPhone3,1 iPhone3,2 and iPhone3,3 so it could be misleading.

You should be able to use Pangu to jailbreak it, assuming it is an iPhone 4 or later model.
