Freezing and hanging after iOS 8.0.2 update on my iPad and iPhone

I am so frustrated with Apple right now. Now only does Siri suck (half the time she says she can't get to me right now) and the app screens are boring (unlike on my Android phone), but now after the update, I have a totally unreliable pair of iOS devices. No matter how many other apps I have running - just one or a few - and whether I have recently restarted my device, while typing in an app it just freezes. No buttons work at all - not even the Home or Power buttons. I just have to wait it out. Seriously flawed. I think next time I am getting a Samsung tablet.

Just restarting may not help. Have you tried hard resetting your device to see if it helps.
Press the Home button and the Power/Sleep button simultaneously till the screen goes bland, and release the buttons when you see the Apple logo.
