I want to restore my jailbroken iphone 5 but I always get an error code

I use an iPhone 5 that is jail-broken. Recently, I've decided that I wanted to update my iPhone to ios8.1 (and then re-jailbreak it). So I backed it up in spite that I could to restore it to its factory settings, I didn't google how or anything, and I think I should've turned off "Find My iPhone," but I didn't. And every time I press restore, iTunes extracts the software, starts to restore, and in the end, fails and tells me that it couldn't restore my iPhone. Please help me, now my iPhone is staying on the "Connect to iTunes" screen and I'm unsure of what to do.

    U would make sure that my iTunes is current and try using a different usb port when you connect your phone to your computer. If worst comes to worst just take it the nearest Apple Store and have them restore it because u can downgrade to 8.1 for the time being.
