Apple Removes Deeply Offensive iPhone Game "Baby Shaker" from App Store; Issues an Apology for Appro
We have seen quite a few iPhone apps removed or banned from the App Store by Apple for reasons such as copyright issues, duplicating functionality, offering tethering functionality, based on limited utility, content or materials found objectionable, just a ridiculous app etc. This time Apple has removed a controversial iPhone...

how did this app even get aproved and get on the app store?
-
The approval process is a manual process and hence subjective which probably resulted in the app getting rejected.
It appears to be an innocent mistake by someone who probably didn't know about Shaken Baby Syndrome.
But the animation which showed two large red Xs was also quite lame and was good enough reason to be rejected.
-
Yeah they are giving great apps like the sling player for the iphone a hard time to get approved even dough it's an app that everyone wants and been waiting for, but then crap like this gets on the app store come on what's wrong with that picture.
-
i have an 8 1/2 month old daughter and i still think that's funny. i mean i'm glad it's off but still. maybe the person who approved it just had a sense of humor?
-
Whoa, come on, I'm all for controversial humour and against harsh censorship but a baby killing game is funny? I think you have serious problems if you consider it funny.
It's ridiculous that Apple lets this horrible app on but stops genuinely useful things like a video recorder, full bluetooth or push email from getting out there.
-
Yeah it's funny get over it. I can't believe people are bitching about this. If you don't like it then don't download it. It's not like they forced you to look at it or download it. Just another reason why this country sucks and is going to hell in a hand basket.
-
it is kinda funny though lol
-
You could say you were rocking the baby to sleep.
Maybe this app was developed to take the stress out of flying coach.
-
I don't think this is too funny.
-
It is not funny.

You whiney cry babies that think you have a right to not be offended should have died of shaken baby syndrome. It's a cheap quality app for funny/entertaining purposes. Did the app tell you to shake real babies? NO. Did it hold a gun to your head and force you to shake a baby? NO. Did the app kill any babies? NO. Grow up get over it and stop trying to police humor.
I think the bible is a disturbing and disgusting book full of incest, rape, murder, and intolerance. However, I'm not out there ruining the way you want to waste your sundays. giving your money to a tax exempt organization that does nothing more than tell you stories that are as true as the little mermaid.
To anyone that thinks it's not funny: It will be when you and the wife go out for dinner and the teenager you left with your kid does it...HAHA GO DIE FASCISTS! -
you must not have any kids if you think this is funny!!!

Need for speed undercover for you guys----->http://ipsphone.blogspot.com/2009/04/turn-on-your-engines.html
-
you've got some real issues hidden inside your meek little mind.
-
No he's the only person here that isn't an idiot. You don't have the right to not be offended. They didn't make you download it. If you don't like it get over it and move on. All people ever do is whine and **** about unfairness and being offended. Such cry babies.
-
Rumo, you're the one who's an idiot. You're defending a guy who thinks parents will have a field day when the teenage baby sitter commits a crime against humanity. Let's say you were brutally raped as a child, or even better, if you have a small daughter, and she was brutally raped, would you want to play a game where you brutally rape children? Of course not.
Yes, they did make a mistake, but no, it wasn't too funny.
Although my example may seem a little more grave than shaking babies, babies can still be forever incapacitated from this or even end up dead. I used to work at a day care center and it's not too funny. Let's try to be a little more mature here.
-
its just a game...........
it aint real..............so i dont see all the fuzz........
-
Yeah I wouldn't want to play the game if that had happened to me. But the point is no one FORCED you to view or download this app. Get off your high horse and stop trying to censor every little thing in this world. It's gotten to the point where you can't say or do anything without offending someone. People are so uptight about every little thing and they should just pull their heads out of their asses and get a sense of humor or ignore it and move on.
-
Look, I have a kid... and the only thing this article confirmed is that I am not spending enough time looking for new apps on the app store. Cause I can't believe I missed the chance to download this! ARG!

To be blunt, we do live in a world where people are way over sensitive, get offended for incredibly lame reasons, want to censor really mild stuff as to not offend a small minority of people and even go as far as removing peoples rights to enjoy free media and freedom of speech just to appease a couple of idiots with no sense of humor.
But this ISN'T one of thous times, this is an App with no other motive other then to offend, you do nothing other then shake the phone and watch a baby get crosses on its eyes, its really not a great loss to the free world, its not a perfectly fine game with a minor offensive aspect which is being removed as to not offend a couple crazy fanatics, the baby shaking game was offensive for the sake of being offensive and had NOTHING other then that, so yes it should of been removed, and no its not a case of uptight people censoring things for the common man, so do yourselves a favor and stop whining about this low quality piece of rubbish from being removed. -
so true but i think you would think differntly if that 8 1/2 month old doughter had Shaken Baby Syndrome

Anyone who thinks there is ANYTHING humorous in this issue is SICK. Apology by Apple doesen't cost them a dime. I hope one of the impacted families SUES or that a coalition of families, national advocacy organizations sue CLASS ACTION significant enough to impact Apple financially. One cup of accidental hot coffee cost McDonalds Millions,,,this was willful, and could have been prevented. Go see one of these shaken babies (assuming they are lucky enough to survive with lifetime disabilities) then go play your video game. Hey dude, looook, I shut it up,,,look at those retinas...
-
Frivolous. All be it wrong morally, it's thought's like this that stem frivlous, which in turn tie up court time for real issues Pure idiocy, if you don't like the game, don't buy it, don't support it.
It's about freedom of expression and freedom of speech. You can cut a cats head off in some of these games, is that not immoral? That seems to be okay for the masses. If you find this game funny then let it be played, if you end up shaking a baby in real life then you're a jackass who deserves what's coming. Either way, if there is a person out there who can be motivated by something a stupid as a game, then they can be motivated by anything else to commit the same action.
This results in a need for education rather than censorship. Educate people about SBS, the entire problem exists because people don't have the sense to realize what can happen if someone really does this. I see a positive in this game, it has created thought amongst many of the users, which therefore will lead to learning more about what SBS is. If someone learns about it, and wishes to continue to play it then it is their call. NOT YOURS.
Financially burdening a company who has admitted to this mistake isn't going to put a stop to babies being shaken.
-
By the way, the lady that sued Mc Donalds for the hot cup of coffee is an idiot. Proves my point about frivolous lawsuits. Who out there doesn't know that a cup of coffee is hot? Even if it's hotter than most, common sense. Poor example. Water coming out of a faucet through the hot valve can burn too, you gonna sue the water heater company for not giving you a dummy sticker?
-
Agreed.
-
if your baby has suffered from shaken baby syndrome, why would you even download this in the first place? and if you didn't download it, why would it offend you? its just a game...no one is forcing you to come in contact with it..shaken baby syndrome isn't funny...this app is.
-
I understand this app is beyond offensive, but did any babies die because of this game? I think we are jumping the gun when talking of censorship. Isn't this entire site here because of censorship from Apple? Wouldn't Apple like to censor, or even shut down, this very page?
Don't take me wrong, I am thoroughly disgusted with this app, just like all of you, but does that mean we should give up our birthright of freedom? Personally, I believe there should be only a few actions barred from use, actions like censoring, banning, and controlling (at least barred from use by the government and big businesses).
The person who said we should educate others about this was right. I also understand the human need for justice, but the court system is already clogged up with enough cases. Most people, when criticized for their actions, bear resentment toward their critics, and that's how conflicts start. In my opinion, this is a non-issue. Why don't we just accept Apple's apology and move on with more important issues like the massive amount of deficit spending in Washington D.C., the poor, the homeless, people dying of cancer, and the power hungry politicians and corporations (including Apple and Microsoft) who are eating away at our civil rights.
-
Well put! I agree.
-
If you dont like it dont play it.. No one is threatening your children and maybe we should see the line between reality and fiction. After all the violence in American media IE TV VIDEO GAMES MOVIES AND LETS NOT FORGET WAR. Is not going to stop with one app that lets face it has inferior graphics and really nothing but a drawn picture with red x's over the eyes. And if your gonna cry and tell me your child might download it. Then why the hell do they have an Iphone with an active Itunes account and free range to download anything they please. Trust me there allot more offensive things to download than this app. Personally I think your outrage and hype is making this mouse into a bigger monster. After all I only want to download it because everyone seems to be slobbering and spitting all over the place in anger. Although maybe this would be a good tool to work against your frail psychosis.
Cause a stir parents! It just draws your kids, piers, whoever, to the taint of what you consider the "darkside".
