Tool Released to Downgrade Baseband from 02.30.03 to 02.28.00 for iPhone 3G Users
Apple had released iPhone firmware 2.2.1 back in Jan which included some minor bugs and improvements. However Dev Team had warned against updating to firmware 2.2.1 without preserving the baseband if iPhone 3G users wanted to unlock their iPhone as it also included a baseband update (02.30.03) which breaks the...

they should make it more easy and allow us to download and use from installer or cydia...

-

-
i think it needs a little more tweaking around.
i tried it and got the "success!" message but
my baseband was still 2.30 and still couldn't use
yellowsnow...i would just wait a bit...
-
maybe they shoulf make a couple of thing a lil bit more clear.
for example, what firmware shld we be on inorder for it to work and this kind of stuff -
DEV team had left behind?

hi guys, i tried. I'm stucked at the last thing to do, maybe someone know how to help me...
Using Mobile Termilal I type: "cd / Applications/phasebandowngrader && ./phasebandowngrader"
(just cause with the other method doesnt work...)
and i recieveMarameo-iPhone:/Applications/phasebandowngrader root#
and even if i try to write again ./phasebandowngrader it says the same stuff
Marameo-iPhone:/Applications/phasebandowngrader root#
Any ideas? Thanks
-
did you login?
-
didnt work for me
i log in terminal, and do those things but it just ends up with root# and after that nothing happens
they should really pack it somehow. I hate working in Terminal.
-
i got the "success" but after reboot still 2.30
-
Can anyone please help!
I followed the instructions and double-checked that many times. I logged-on as root and all files were copied successfuly. However, when I try ./phasebandowngrader I receive "permission denied". What have I done wrong?
-
My iphone bootloader is 6.2 and I also get "permission denied" message. Is it to do with the bootloader version?
-
yes, only works up to 5.8. All iphones bought after september 2008 cannot use this.
-
i also got permission denied...but i bought my iphone befor sep 2008...but anyway, any1 has a qucik way to check for bootloader version?
-
i have no luck
mine is 5.09
-
the permission denied is cause you need to make the permission of the files 755 :)
-
yeah i login:)
-
Thanks both of you. I realized the problem and changed the permission to 755. Yet, the fix didn't work on my mobile as the baseband is 6.2 :(
-
maybe they should just ask you for your phone and do it for you for free.
-
I finally gave up and went to a phone dealer in my area and paid them $20 to just do it for me. Now I have a phone and unlock to tmobile..
-
well, im just saying that maybe if put thru cydia/installer(since its more easier and effective) more people will be able to use it since some do not use the SSH method... like i do...
-
Waiting for a BL 5.09 and BL 6.02^^
-
I did it
but not with method from this post.
I went to modmyi.com and there was step by step process.
Luckily, I had 5.80 bootloader (actually in Terminal shows 5.08) and I bought it in July 2008
After that I install Yellowsn0w and my other sim card worked normally.
here are instructions.
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/iphone-news/575351-downgrade-3g-baseband-2-30-2-28-a-4.html
its in comment from tatoojack
if you want to cut that 1st step where you have to create 3 files here is link for direct download:
https://innuendo.sugarsync.com/getfiles/pb038dv5ytdSo basically you should start follow tattojack instructions from:
"Copy the three files..."If this shortcut doesnt work than do it from beginning and create those 3 files again.

I tried... everything went smoothly... but my bootloader is 5.9, so as expected it didn't work.
Hopefully there will be new release for bootloader 5.9 or above.

Hi ,
Please let us know whether the phone dealer also used the same tool , if not please provide us the address of the phone dealer so that even we can do the same. Spending another $20 is worth if we can use the Iphone .
-
yeah, i have tried all the reported 'fixs'
if you have bootloader 5.9, and modem firmware of 2.30.03, you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT.
Dev Team are working on 3.0 now, no reason to unlock 2.2.*
-
There is still a reason to unlock 2.2.1... Let's say when Apple release new iPhone in June/July (maybe the same time when OS3 is released). I would be very interested to buy one, and unlock my current iPhone 3G for a better price on eBay... :)

Hello All,
I'd like to share something with you guys that are stuck like I was. I bought a used iPhone from Ebay and the guy upgraded it to the newest firmware w/ its 2.30.03 baseband. It was jailbroken but I could not use it w/ my t-mobile sim.
My solution to the guy was instead of my sending it back I would try a turbo sim from ebay and if it worked he would refund me 20bux for my troubles. So I went and did some research and ended up buying a $10 turbo sim from ebay. Initially it did not work and all it said was "no sim" i tried everything hard booting it power cycling it, cleaning my sim and nothing. As a last straw I tried my mother's sim and it worked! (shes on t-mobile too) so i found out my sim was old and these new turbo sims did not work w/ an old sim card so i grabbed an extra one from a friend and the rest is history. I LOVE MY IPHONE BTW!
I won't point you to a specific guy so you don't think im THAT guy but it was a "gevey turbo sim plus2" it came in a little red envelope real small they sent it in a regular letter envelope. They say you can't use airplane mode but i've accidentally hit it a couple of times nothing bad happened.
P.s. I don't have a data plan on my phone cuz personally i think edge sux (had it on my old 1g iphone) so i havent had the chance to test that out.
hope this helps and enjoy!
