Dev Team Warn Users to Avoid Upgrading to iTunes 8.2 as it Breaks Jailbreaking
Apple released iTunes 8.2 and QuickTime 7.6.2 via Software Update today. iTunes 8.2 adds support to iPhone OS 3.0 which is expected to be released this summer. But MuscleNerd one of the members of the iPhone Dev team is warning users to avoid installing iTunes 8.2 as it breaks jailbreaking....

Just iPhone's being jailbroken are affected by 8.2?
iPod Touch 2nd Gen using redsn0w is fine?
-
I have a test iPhone and a production one and there have been NO adverse reactions by my test or prod jailbroken phones sync'ing with 8.2. Can you guys be more specific about cause and effect??
-
I believe he said it affects QuickPwn and PwnageTool so unless you use a different jailbreak software, that means you.
-
But without iTune 8.2, can you activate OS 3.0? As far as I can recall, my OS 3.0 Beta 5 can only be activate via pre-relreased iTune 8.2.
Unless DevTeam can provide activation during their jailbreaking process, otherwise I can't see how we can avoid iTune 8.2 if we are upgrading to OS 3.0 in about 2 weeks time (finger cross)!

I don't suppose this will also stops the Palm Pre from syncing to iTunes. So strange Apple release an update so soon after all the press about the Palm Pre's ability to sync. ;)

There is no issue syncing a jailbroken iPhone with
iTunes 8.2.But if you want to jailbreak your iPhone and have upgraded to iTunes 8.2 then you won't be possible using QuickPwn and PwnageTool as iTunes 8.2 breaks them.
-
Thanks Ryan, you are spot on!
The reason iPhonebrowser has also stopped working is because iTunes 8.2 also breaks the iPhone Tunneling Suite (ssh over usb) as per the Dev Team.
-
The pre-release version of iTunes 8.2 was only required to activate a beta version of iPhone OS 3.0.
It shouldn't be required when iPhone OS 3.0 is officially released.
If you are worried about jailbreak then Dev Team have clarified it is easy to fix the issue introduced by iTunes 8.2, however they will release updated versions of PwnageTool and QuickPwn only when iPhone OS 3.0 is released.
-
Good guess, Dev Team thinks iTunes 8.2 might break Palm Pre's connection to the computer.
It looks like Palm might also join the cat and mouse game.

Hello! I have 2 questions...
1, If you upgrade to this OS 3.0 then, will all the existing apps remain on your iPhone or will you have to reinstall everything?
2, Also, have the Dev Team created a Pwnage tool to jailbreak the official OS 3.0 once it is released does anyone know?
-
Okay, I think I follow, but I'm too broke to brick, so I wanna clarify. I have a 1st gen iPhone that I currently have unlocked and jailbroken. I think I used QuickPwn last time. I want to update to the 3.0 OS, especially if it will add an A2DP support, but I don't wanna screw it up. I have to still be able to use T-Mo. If I use Pwnage Tool 3.0, will it a.) upgrade me to the 3.0 OS, b.) jailbreak it, and c.) still leave it unlocked? Any clarification is much appreciated!

I jused miy jailbroken iphone with itunes8.2, but nothing happened the fone is still jailbroken

This warning message is not about connecting to iTunes 8.2 but a warning by
the Dev Team to avoid upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1 whenever it is available
via iTunes.
