iPhone OS 3.0: Hidden Features
It has been more than a week since Apple released the much awaited iPhone OS 3.0 which included 100 new features such as Copy and Paste, Spotlight, Bluetooth, Push Notification, MMS, Tethering (last 2 not yet available in US) and more. But the fun part is to discover the features...

HMM.....
NICE. SOME THESE I NEW ALREADY THO.
-
You will have 'Notifications' option in Settings to toggle notifications ON/OFF once you install any app that supports push notifications. I dunno if you already know about that but it is a pretty new thing to me.
-
Didn't apple show the undo feature at keynotes?
Tell you what I found on safari... If you press and hold a link it gives you an option to open in a new window. Exellent -
New Music Scrubbing feature
Now if u try to scrub through your music then drag ur finger down the screen, it scrubs more slowly to make it more precise...

Can't wait for the Dev team to unlock the 3GS, i'm stuck with my 2gen Iphone till then........

lol they're hardly hidden features!!
-
By hidden, they mean they weren't mentioned
-
Thanks! i noticed that if you hold the home button, it doesnt force quit the app... now i find out you have to hold the power button, then the home button...
-
Nice to know about the shake-to-undo feature. It appears that you can undo several levels as well as redo (if you have already undone it) by using the same method.

Is there an option to copy text from webpages without having to copy the entire rows from tables? I think the copy mechanism is based on the assumption that there is no harm in copying too much text (as you can remove what you don't want after pasting), but sometimes this isn't possible/practical (e.g., the target field is too small or doesn't accept multi-line text and what you want is not in the first line).

Does anyone know how the push stuff actually works? I have a jb iphone and i cant get beejiveIM to work on iphone 3g, my friend was using it on non jb iphone and pushed works fine. Why does activating through jb kill off push notification? Apparently i no longer get the constant connection back to apple's servers?
Ah heck I bought a cheap phone on 3 for msn and skype so I'm not all that fussed. (and yes 3's network is rubbish)

wish they would put a feature in to choose whether or not you want landscape text feature - it's annoying as hell and sometimes sticks
-
When creating a contact, you now can specify iPhone
as the type of number instead of mobile. Maybe for
multimedia texts? -
Also, there's a few map corrections. You can now go to the map directions when you are using from "current location" and reload directly holding the text current location without having to retype it. When you look at current locations that it found it tries to provide you with your estimated address.

These are hidden "features"? More home screens and being taken back to what your doing is something that should have already been there. These are tweaks not features.

I can pee farther than you can!

About a week ago I stumbled upon the following link, which gives a rundown of every single feature of the 3.0 firmware.... http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=715629
-
What about launching iPod and shake to skip? Did they mention that?
-
Good notes :)
-
One important issue I've found with the 3GS voice feature is even when your phone is locked, activating the voice feature will still call any telephone number. Apple should tweak this.
-
i think its because of that new location thingy
-
Not many people also know that now... text's can be deleted one by one! YAY! I just hope they'd do the same with calls.
-
One 3.0 feature that I stumbled upon the other day:
You can toggle the speed of podcast playback -
.5 speed to slow it down, and 2x speed, great for getting through lots of content. Can now effectively get through twice as much content as before! Probably the most useful feature I've discovered
-
whatever kiddo
-
it depends on what your copying out of, i think. when your in safari, and you hold down on what you want to copy, its says copy and then has two blue bars surrounding the word or words, just drag the blue bars to include what you would like. In texting though, I'm not sure you have the choice, though. I'm not a pro at this at all, but this is one thing I sorta know how to do =)
-
The setting is under settings/general/passcode lock and you can turn voice dial on or off when the phone is locked. No need for Apple to tweak this. They already gave you the option.
-
battery percentage, option i like this :D
-
Has anyone noticed the option to display the actual battery percentage next to the battery bar? Just dicovered this feature last night, haha.
-
Beejive IM used jailbreak or copyright detection and they believe it's naughty for you to use their program for free, maybe this is a limitation of theirs?
-
Good one I didn't kno about that one thanx!
