Some help 8.3

Hi!
I got a iphone 5 on 8.3. Im looking to dig through the files but to do that I need to jailbreak it. I have not jailbroken a phone for years so im a little out of touch. I cant afford to lose anything on the phone. I can back it up but the stuff I want to keep are old messages that can only be seen in the spotlight function. And backing it up does not save them messages.
How likely am I to lose data?
What software can I use to jailbreak 8.3? I looked at taig. But the older ones give me erros about some webkit.dll and unable to find iTunes. I try the newest taig 2 but it appears you now have to pay for a jailbreak?
Any help would be great!

There is always a risk of hitting an issue, but it forcing you to restore the device are slimmer, though cannot be ruled out.
I am not sure how the messages are accessible in spotlight but not in the Messages app.
