Is there an app to customize how you sort music on your iphone?

I'm guessing the only way to get this done is though a jailbreak? i want more options to sort my music, specifically i would like to sort my music by artist and have it play through the catalogue by the year the album came out, not alphabetically and not stop at the end of one album, is this possible?
