Ipad from out of business company locked in kiosk mode help.

I am not an apple guy but my friend would like my help with gaining access to an ipad that he got from a company that only has access to one app, kiosk mode I guess it's called. He has had it sitting around for a while and wants to know if he can gain access to use it. Is that possible? I don't know what model, he is bringing it over tomorrow for me to look at. Thanks if you can help. *Edit* it's an A1474 Google tells me that's a16gb ipad air.
