Apple Working On Solar Powered iPhone/iPod?
We could be moving towards a scenario where power-guzzling iPhone applications could be run without the fear of your iPhone battery draining out. In a new patent filed by Apple recently with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the company has revealed information about their research on electronic devices...

Alot of people are actually constantly on their iphone, basically the power used to power the iphone when it is out is the same amount of power maybe even more that could be put right back into the phone with every use, their would be no need to chanrge for phone until at night and during the it would use solar power when it is out. Not to mention the battery powre, while the phone is in your pocket, will be used to just trasmit calls texts and all push required options. bascically if this was implemented, The iphone would rarely need to be charge a few times a day.

In a class I was teaching, a rather ingenius student brought in an experment that proved using solar cells from radio shack and less than 1/4 of the area of the face of the iPhone could maintain, not necessarly charge, the units batery voltage. I can imagine that using much higher quality cells and better technology it is quite possible.
It would be about time all these gadgets started using the technology.

For those of us that carry the iPhone in a holster and use a BlueTooth ear piece, this feature would be nearly useless.
Also, I have mine in a Gel case in case I drop it (twice now), and it would cover up all the solar cells... again a useless feature for me that would add weight and bulk to the phone...
I would rather carry a separate solar panel dock in my backpack that I can plug the iPhone into.
