thanks for the tip, i always had this problem and it this trick works!

I personally just press and hold both buttons at the same time. It's quicker than these instructions and seems to do the same thing.

i personally just use sbsettings, it's quicker and easier than this god awful button holding combination.

SBsettings makes things 10x easier, especially when holding the home button is set to activate backgrounding.

well this hasnt worked for me before as ive tried holding the sleep wake button when an app hangs and all that happens is my phone shuts down. which yes it does kill the app that was hanging but i have to turn my phone back on and well we all know that takes a good minute to boot back up... should my phone take that long to boot? just wondering.
so whats the trick with sbsettings? any thing beats having to reboot my sh*t! -
with sbsettings, in any app just swipe the top menu bar where time and battery is, then click processes and close offending app. there is also an option for freeing up memory, and customizable quick toggles for 3g, wifi, bt, etc. works great, i use it all the time as my crossword app freezes often with proswitcher.

Nice. I used this on my iPhone 4 to re-start my GoWalla App which stopped showing locations for like 3 days. Works perfectly. Thanks.
