Analyst: Apple Might Lower iPad Price If Sales Don't Pick Up
The Apple iPad goes on sale next month at a starting price of $499. It has also been speculated that carriers might offer subsidized iPad 3G+Wi-Fi models for less than $175 to users who sign a two-year contract. It looks like Apple could also be looking at reducing the prices...

I speculate that Mr.J loves hotdogs wrapped in underware.

It's speculation based on PRE-ORDERS. It's how the world of new products works!
The iPhone models had people queing up for them so the demand kept price stable. If ipad pre-orders are low, Apple must (& will) reconsider some part of their marketing strategy, price of sale vs cost of manufacture is usually the first consideration.
So, if sales don't look promising, they should drop the sales price to attract interest and cut manufacturing losses. -
But didn't they reimburst the owners who purchased the iphones at launch price?
-
Not in full, but they did give $100 apple credit... Early buyers still took it in the a** for the the extra $100.
But it's typical to pay more to be one of the first owners of a new gadget!
I can remember paying $800 for my first DVD player! -
You probably don't wear underwear if you don't even know how to spell it.
