heh... just remember what happened to the 3gs... the older ones are golden but after they were jailbroken a new bootrom was used... now we're all stuck with a 'teathered' jailbreak until Iphone OS 4.0 comes out. (or perhaps the iPhone4G if OS 4.0 come out first...)

My poor 3G is definitly needing to be upgraded. Its had a new rear case and a new battery and now the screen has crack!! I am so getting it the day it comes out!!

Now i think i will upgrade...it´s worth
3G and 3Gs (minus the 3G protocol) aren´t worth for me
My 2g is about 3 years and some dead pixels ! lol ! -
Gonna' wait and see. Got the original iPhone quickly, but didn't see enough reason to upgrade to the 3G (never did). 3GS was too cool. Pre-ordered that one. If the new firmware has ANY of the hardware features I'm hoping for (no, nothing stupid like a keyboard), I'm absolutely buying it. If not, I may still cave in a month or two later :P

It involves taking the phone apart. Check out ifixit.com. Its all there buddy and you'll get a battery from ebay.
