I know you guys are all waiting anxiously for this jailbreak, but personally, I'd prefer that it wasn't released until after OS 4.0 is released. Chances are, the security hole will still exist in 4.0, but would be patched before release if this jailbreak is released now.

The wording confuses me. I have a iPod Touch 3G (MC model) that had 3.1.2 but was upgraded to 3.1.3. Will this NEW jailbreak still allow the downgrade even without any SHSH backup?

You said it. They are not holding back to **** with the jail breaking world they are trying to see what apple does next. The new ipad 3g makes u update to the new iTunes 9.1.1. This will prevent jail broken devices from syncing with iTunes. Also apple can come out with ipad os 3.2.1 for example stoping jail breaks all together. Just chill and let the people that spend time and money to bring you a FREE reliable jailbreak... Have some fucking respect. After all it is not you out smarting a military billion $ company !!!!

But, you have to understand the people who bought new iTouch or iPhone 3GS. It is not just a issue for iPad.. -
The shsh blobs you have willll let you downgrade to what ever os you backed up on so for example if u back up a new out thre box iPhone 3gs running 3.1.3 the if u by mestake upgraded to 4.0 u would be able to go back to 3.1.3. Back up now. Who knows how long it will take to make the 4.0 aviable to the world

Simply, this jailbreak method can be fixeable easily by Apple.
It means, this jailbreak using a hole in firmware instead of BootCode of device.
So, if announce this method for 3.1.3/3.2, it will be fixed on next firmware (maybe 3.2 for 3G/S) by Apple very soon.
It means, this jailbreak method may not work for the next firmware.
If you have 3.1.3/3.2 firmware, and then, you can jailbreak your iDevices. but, If you update your firmware to next version. This method may not work.
If you have backped SHSH, you can downgrade to 3.1.3/3.2 even you have upgrade to new firmware. but, If you don't have, you can not downgrade after upgrade your firmware.

Okay, but mine was at v3.1.2 out of the box, but right away I carelessly upgraded to 3.1.3. I have no backups at all.
The quote: "Unless you’ve backed up your SHSH blobs for vulnerable firmware versions, you’ll lose the ability to use the current Spirit jailbreak if you accidentally upgrade." really concerns me especially when this was promoted as being a fix to all 3.1.3 devices including the iPod Touch 3GS. :(

Oh, wait. I think I misunderstood, so if my phone RIGHT NOW is at 3.1.3, and the jailbreak comes out, it will work fine UNLESS I subsequently upgrade to the next version. I hope that's correct.

Yup that's correct. The SHSH blob backup is required only in case you accidentally upgrade to future iPhone OS updates.
