Apple Releases iOS 4.0.1 For iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G To Fix Incorrect Display Of Signal Strength
Apple has just released iOS 4.0.1 (8A306) for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G along with iOS 3.2.1 for iPad. iOS 4.0.1 includes the signal bar changes to fix incorrect display of signal strength. According to Apple, it will provide users a much better indication of the reception...

After the update, my wireless signal seemed to go down to two bars and im sitting 13 inches from the router. Previously i have had 4 to 5 bars in my house.

Same here my signal has also dropped to two bars. On my old 3g phone I always had a full signal.

My wifi signal is acting up now too. I always had full bars in my house. Now after the update I'm sitting at 1 bar for wifi. I knew this software fix was a bunch of BS!

All you greedy dorks that jumped on iPhone 4 got ripped off. That's why I always upgrade(3G , 3GS) a month or 2 after it comes out. And the worst part is Apple had the phone atleast a year to test on it and they released it like it was all good.this sucks... I hope the white iphone4 comes stress free

people, are freaking stupid. all phone when you hold them drop bars that has been a known fact since the first cellphones came out. I had the Sidekick 1,2, 3 and LX, and they all did that when i held on my ear as soon as I put the earpiece i was fine. My razor did it too i got a bluetooth and it was fine so the IPHONE 4 have a similar problem big fucking deal get a case bluetooth piece earpiece or put it on speaker no phone will always be perfect in all the ways. I swear people are fucking stupid.

Love my iPhone 4 don't have any problems with it even when I hold it with my left hand! It's the best phone ive ever had and is easily better then the 3GS and 3G I have had! Everyone is just trying to bring apple down because they have made the best thing to date and no-one can compare to it! If you want a phone that you think is gona have amazing signal all the time when it isn't buy something else and stop complaining about the iphone! If not see this phone for what it is! The best but of technology ever!!!!

I'll bet the new software spends more time trying to stop the hacking community than providing any real fix for the iphone. So I'll just have to wait for a new jailbreak to come out before I do any update. I'm going back to 3GS, these iphone4 issues are just wearing me out.

4.01 now shows me 1 less initial bars when the phone is lying on my desk but still manages to drop 2 bars when I cover the bottom left of the phone with a finger.
And why would I want to destroy the elegance of my shiny new phone with an effing bumper / case /plastic bag / piece of duct tape????

They release 4.0.1 cuz they trying to let dev team release the jailbreak n unlock so apple can patch it I have a iPhone4 n my signal drop when I hold left corner n sometime it mute when I put on my ear job trying to stop the community hack so he can make more money as well as AT&T trying to get us in to a new contract **** apple but I love IOS4

But... this doesn't fix the problem of 3G's bricking with iOS4? Really hope this helps with the hardware/software compatibility problems that 3G owners (myself included) are having. I haven't heard of many of these problems outside of my own experience, but I took it down to the Apple Store and they told me that iOS4 has been bricking 3Gs left and right.
