According to them, OmniVision Technologies are the chosen ones who'd be supplying image sensors for both these cameras. With...

I don't see a need for the iPad to have a camera at all, personally. I suppose some may like the front camera, but I hardly ever use a webcam.
-
I have never even used facetime on my iphone 4. I dont care to either. Maybe some day.
-
i also agree a front cam but holing an 11 inch camara to ake i picture will look kinda strange.
-
front facing cam = ok
rear cam MEHHH.... -
It would makes sense that the next gen ipad has facetime capabilities as mac now have that capability. I wouldnt buy one for that feature but i wouldnt mind of it was available.

i was planning to get an ipad 2 for Christmas , but OH well looks like am gonna have to wait few more months , SKYPE and front facing camera on WIFI IPAD tethered through my UNLIMITED DATA PLAN from my IPHONE 4 is HUGEEEEEEEEE AND BEAUTIFUL for me !

It should have both cameras. If you dun use camera, it's up to you.

Big whoop?

I will definitely wait for the front-facing camera. However, I don't see why Apple don't allow Skype videochats or iChat on iPhone4. And why is it not possible using FaceTime or similar on 3G?
Does anybody know why?
Last, what is the real difference between iChat and facetime? -
I'm waiting for the next-gen iPad ONLY because of this. We (family) make a lot of video calls, on daily basis. And I scan documents with my iPhone sometimes, so a rear camera should be also.

I have current iPad wireless and iPhone 4 - don't need a camera on iPad.. Phone does all of that. It's beauty is it's functionality and screen, eg newswire on iPhone- forwarded to readitlater for big articles. Would rather have front face camera working for Skype on iPhone!

You guys just missing the point. Camera on Ipad is not for making pics of your kids, mum... It's for scanning, documents copying, pics tasks taking, pics reminders,... It would be amazing for all kind of productivity stuff. I dont use facetime on iphone much but still it's good to have this option :)

I am pretty sure that the next generation ipad will have the front camera. As we see that most products have facetime. Macs, ipod touch (4th gen), iphone 4. So definitly iPad will have them.

I was wondering when someone was gonna point this out. Im an Engineer for my city and having the rear camera on the ipad would be great for site pictures. I think it should come equipped with the front facing and the rear camera. I would make the already super popular ipad that much more of a necessity.
-
...and hopefully the next ipad would also have a card reader.
-
+1. I've used Tango once, and tried to use Facetime once. No real need.
-
Not familiar with iChat, but Tango works the same as Facetime, and on 3G.
-
Why don't they put a 3mpx or higher front camera and no back camera.i use my iphobe for photos.

I think the rear camera would be very stupid mainly because well, who in their right mind would hold up an iPad as a photography device. its inconvenient, the front facing camera woud make sense. or to extend the longevity of the iPad 1g, they should have a camera attatchment in order to facetime with an older device.
