I have compared VLC Media Player with CineXPlayer and CineXPlayer is better!
It plays AVI even more flawless and You have the option to add srt-files (subtitles) to Your movies! So, for me there is no reason to to download or keep VLC. -

Does iVLC (is that a good name?) play any media file or only videos that ipod can't natively play. I was really hoping to effectively *replace* my iphone's ipod app with VLC or another (free) media player app.

Like it has been said, this is a free app, and unfortunately, CineXPlayer doesn't support the amount of formats VLC does.
So sure, keep Cine to play AVI files, but then what about other files like MKV etc? As I know AVI is not exactly what a lot of places are using anymore. At least for the subbing community.

Well I don't know about you, but with VLC I can finally play this videos attachments from my iPhone Mail.app, that issue whas keeping me thinking on switching to Android!!!! Only because the iOS wasn't able to play a god dam WMV video. But now with the VLC installed Mail.app offers me to play it on VLC!!!!!! Just asome...

Hvwe you tried SharePlayer? That one for me works treat over a network too (EG: Samba).

Just played with oPlayer. No. Shareplayer plays directly off Samba shares. No downloading needed. And plays all files. Give it a try.
