I really need/want find my phone. I do not need to worry about an unlock for 22 months (resale value) but this seems like a high price to pay. B. Jobs is getting smart.

Remember ATT and Apple have/had a contract. If Apple does not try to stop the unlocking that may void something in there contract with each other. If I payed tons of money to make the iphone exclusive to my company, I damn well would want that company to fight the people trying to unlock them.

Hey people, my Iphone3G is JB at v3.1.3 Model MB704LL firmware 05.12.01. I haven't had the need to upgrade but, now that more software is 4.0+ I feel its time.
Any advice on upgrading to 4.1 ONLY and then JB?

They want to be ABLE to lock down their phone, because - yes - they do get kickbacks from phone companies around the world.

What about all these websites that offer to unlock the iPhone 4 3GS. Etc running on 4.1 are they really able to unlock the 02.10.04 firmware ????

Its a scam for credit info if anything they get there same sources from dev team n others that help with jailbreak n unlocking... Don't buy anything if u want to help just donate to dev team

My non-US iphone was unlocked by the carrier upon request (and there are multiple carriers)
In a junk drawer, i have an AT&T locked non-subsidized 3GS. I feel like returning it to steve, personally, at very high velocity. (to be fair, i used to SW unlock it, but traveling with such a hacked phone can leave you screwed)
Anyone remember the infamous 1984 commercial and sense the irony?
Or maybe not. Since Apple doesn't allow irony apps on their app store.

Use PwnageTools 4.1.2 or SnowBreeze 2.0 to upgrade / jailbreak to iOS 4.1 as these tools will preserve your 05.12 baseband.

I updated my un-jailbroken iphone 3GS to 4.2.1 and got stuck in recovery mode. Because I had used my laptop to jailbreak other iphones my windows host file had some entries that were blocking apple servers 'gs.apple.com'.
I had to use Recboot to break out of recovery mode then comment out gs.apple.com in my hosts to successfully upgrade.
just be aware that jailbreaking tools edit your host files and in future can brick your iphone if yo try to upgrade.

i upgraded my 3g 3.1.3 to 4.2.1 with redsn0w and everything seems fine. Everything seems to be running allot smother and i love the new features

I hated them for a while now. I think if people like use are heard and stop buying into their BS, maybe their depleting pockets would stimulate "change." As long as they keep selling, we mean nothing.

the dev team isnt working on the 4.1 they are working on 4.2.1. and it will be released Sunday so you might as well upgrade to the 4.2.1 i know it sounds funny but it true go read it on redmondpie.com

1. Guys, technically... does an unlock (ultrasnow)purpose have any kind of bearing if u do not wish to change/shift your carrier but jst want ur iPhone Jailbroken? & after w/c, a later version goes out & u just wish to upgrade & rejailbreak again? Any complications w/ that?
2.Assuming you have a fac-unlock iPhone, jailbroken state, & wish to upgrade to the most current iOS version... does it involve any kind of hazard if u simply upgrade & use appropriate JB tool not considering whether ur BB increments as well?
