Apple Disables Jailbreak Detection API In iOS 4.2.1
NetworkWorld is reporting that Apple has disabled or removed the Jailbreak Detection API in iOS 4.2.1, which was used by apps to detect if the user’s iDevice was jailbroken.
It looks like the Jailbreak Detection API was bundled with mobile device management (MDM) APIs in iOS 4, which was released in June.

You have a duplicate paragraph. :)

Apart from the fact that this API could be stubbed to give the correct response, I'm guessing this draconian approach to preserving the sanctity of Apple's view of the World (at least from the mobile phone POV) would be met by a sizeable backlash from their fan base. The only other logical explanation for even attempting to limit the JB community would be as an obvious money grab to force everyone into the iTunes mold.Seriously, if Apple had it's way, apps that show Calendar, Weather, Todo (which is not even native)..etc on the Home screen wouldn't exist. WTF?

Thanks for pointing it out. It has been fixed.

JB is legal in the eyes of the law... as such Jailbreak Detection API and subsequent action thereafter would be seen as breach by the law courts.

Wait? So i can now use Skype on my jailbroken 3G on iOS 4.2.1?
-
BOOL isJailbroken(){NSFileManager *manager = [NSFileManager defaultManager];return [manager fileExistsAtPath:@/private/var/lib/apt/];}Been using this for years... Works perfectly (99,999% of jailbroken devices have Cydia/APT, and only them...), and does not require any "strange" API.
-
You always could the pop up that says they dont support is just that does not stop jailbroken iphones from using skype
-
Well my head has been up my A$$! :o)
-
finally they gave up!!!
-
So isint this a good thing?
-
Power to the JB community..... Next we will take over the WORLD MUHAHAHA!!!!!!

Not true as you can actually make it more secure, it gives you acces to change the security whether you choose to make it less secure is up to you. You can also change the default root password, makin it more secure whoever wrote this article is either A) a poser or b) works for apple
-
Umm, no, what they mean is that jailbroken iPhones can be used to hack servers and passwords, that you can't prohibit certain actions on jailbroken iPhones, which means they might give away "corporate secrets" and stuff. And dont offend people if you did not even read through the article correctly, please
-
Are you dumb? Jailbreaking compromises your iDevice in terms of security, not increase it. Hence why malware has only affected jb'd devices. And like BeerDone said get your facts right before you criticise.

Hi, I just jail broke my iphone 4.2.1 and notice that video and audio chat icons are subdued in both shype and yahpp im . anyone got info ? Thanks
-
Something tells me that this api was causing more security holes then it was solving. It could also have been pulled for compatibility reasons. With that said, there's prolly a host of logical explanations. Apple will NEVER give up on stoping jailbreakers and unlockers alike.
