RIM Thought iPhone Was Impossible In 2007
A former RIM employee revealed that RIM, maker of BlackBerry panicked when Apple unveiled iPhone at MacWorld 2007. RIM apparently held several all-hands meetings the day after the iPhone was unveiled.
In fact, according to the former employee, RIM, maker of BlackBerry smartphones thought that Apple was lying about the iPhone as they couldn’t believe that iPhone with its large touchscreen could have a usable battery life.

Oh, no, the sun revolves around the earth. And earth, by the way, is flat. And then 'he' was extradicted for saying the contrary.

If a leader in the phone industry makes a guess that a phone with that much processing power will demand a lot of power from the small battery, I would say that it is a good guess. However, being that they are in the technology business that propells companies forward, I would say that they failed to keep striving for better battery technology and other ways to lower battery consumption. We have all seen Apollo 13 where NASA figures out a way to lower the amperage to allow the system to kick back on. There is always a way to get what you want. If not, we would still be stuck on our old 2x3x5 batteries stuck to our phones like the early Motorola bricks.

oh! beat it...this means nothing!!! Rivals are always nervous about each other. There's no difference here.If the former RIM employee open up, then so what? Why not spend the time on other pressing issues? We NEED JB for iOS 4.2.1 and not interested in this crap.Sholve it and move on...

That is so funny that they figured it was impossible and took an actual iPhone to see how apple did it and they still haven't caught up after all these years now there on the verge of being irrelevant and perhaps out of business
-
the RIM guys were stupid and never graduate school. He needs to go back yo school to study more. Tech never stop...!
-
LOL! Back to school to study... Maybe your grammar skills can catch a ride with them.

RIM is not incapable by any mean. So if they thought that the iPhone couldn't possibly be an effective device then that shows how good Apple is at engineering and perhaps justify why those things are darn expensive (unsubsidized)!
-
EVERYTHING WANTS TO COPY OF APPLE , everybody's want to compete , cause Apple Rules for the past 20 years , whether u like it or not , just admit it !
-
They should stick to what they do best..business and email or come up with something else..Torch, Storm = Epic FailAt least Andriod is like having a jailbroken iphone and companies like Samsung, HTC and LG somewhat have there **** together. RIM is a joke
-
That's why blackberry suck!
-
lol now that is funny!!!
-
BlackBerry sucks thats all I can say to you all.

had a black balled berry - went to the iphone and haven't been happier. look at what they are doing now.. Buy one, get one free.. just to sell the black berry. Not a good business model in the long run.

RIM is right in some ways. If you are an iphone user, you should know that battery is always a problem. Even with iphone 4, battery problem still remains but not much.

What kind of article is this? A former RIM employee who, I guess, is anonymous and probably is no more than an entry level worker. Well guess what, I heard from a former Apple employee that Steve Jobs thought Android was impossible and that Google would never succeed. BBs can't really compete with the consumer market but even in 3 yrs with the onslaught of Apple and Google they still held the largest US market share. They are the best at what they do but they will never go out of business. It's been 4 generations of iPhones and they are still alive so how many before people stop dreaming that they will disappear. I am not a BB fan because it doesn't suit my needs but that doesn't mean I think they offer an inferior product. They are the best at what they do and they never really catered to the consumer market except for maybe BBM so the market share they are losing was inevitable.

Ignore everything this last guy said. He's an idiot.

I don't see why companies can't work together on certain issues to make one spectacular product. Look at iPhone and Google as far as google maps on iPhone. By far the app most used by me. RIM stands for research in motion right? Well Blackberry needs to do more research or hire some apple employees and engineers because they're OS sucks! Its very clunky and unforgiving. There has yet to be a phone that is 100% an iPhone killer. No other smart phone has better OS. Once jailbroken, the smart phone marker is set even higher! It would be in RIM's best interest to team up with google or maybe even apple to get in the best smart phone race, because they are falling terribly behind. On a side note, maybe other phone engineers can't compete with iPhone because apple patents every dam thing! Oh, and have you guys seen the windows phone? EPIC FAIL

Classic case of underestimating your competition.
-
Yeah the ruled so good that they almost went bankrupt.... Ever since the iPhone launch Apple has started getting "better".
-
It's called either redsn0w 09.6b4 (tethered, Mac/Win) or redsn0w 09.7b3 (beta, untethered, Mac). Anyways, the people writing this have nothing to do with the jailbreaks anyways. Unless one of them is comex or dev-team or someone else in the jailbreaking world.
-
Funny but so tru lol...........
-
Ignore everything this last guy said. He’s an idiot.
-
how can rim expect to compete in the current Android & IOS market if they throwing a 624mhz processors in their FLAGSHIP phones? OS6 is a joke aswell... They just need to focus what made them successful and thats the Business and Military Sector where they need the Security...........

Well, to midkidd, you must know that in this world, there are thing called"profit" and " personal interest". As long as these things exist, you won't see cooperation between companies. oh ya, and to be an Iphone killer, you must convince 1st your customers that the product you own is a product with class, not some product with "common" class and geeky model names such as SGX-16 and a variety of other similar products lying around. Notice how apple dont simply sell or offer new models in a big variety, like any other companies do. Why?CAUSE THEY WANNA MAINTAIN THE "CLASS" AND "LUXURY-NESS" OF THE PRODUCT. WHY DOES PEOPLE BUY AND APPLE PRODUCT AND WANNA SHOW IT OFF WHILE OTHERS THAT HAVE SONY OR SAMSUNG OR DELL OR ETC'S PRODUCT DON'T HAVE SUCH A THOUGHT ON THEIR MINDS? BECAUSE THEY KNOW HOW TO MARKET STUFF! THEY CREATED A BRAND WITH CLASS. THEY MAY NOT SELL WITH COMMMONERS WITH AVERAGE OR LOW INCOME, BUT THEY WONT DIE EASILY AS THE CUSTOMERS THEY HAVE WILL STICK TO THEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE A "CLASS" AND "LUXURY-NESS" INT THEM. EAT THAT OTHER COMPANIES! TRY CREATING A BRAND 1ST THEN SELL! THEY KEY TO APPLES SUCCESS IS NOT TECHNOLOGY BUT MARKETING STRATEGY!!!!!! WAKE UP SUCKERS! MAKE CLEAR WHO ARE YOU SELLING YOUR PRODUCTS TO 1ST! COMMONERS OR LOYAL CUSTOMERS!

Un-freakin-believable. And look where RIM is at today. A mobile company putting all their hopes on a tablet.
-
the rim is the wise phone when comes to battery
-
For those of you that think iPhone don't have good battery life, you need to understand that we iPhone users use our phone way more often than we would with any other phone. By the way mytouch droid phone battery it's junk.
-
Actually ever since S.J. Took back control over apple and introduced the ipod, Apples been on the up swing.

Android is closer to a Nokia's Symbian niche wise than a jailbroken iphone....I miss my N95 one of the worlds greatest phones ever...with a forward facing cam and 5mp cam
