iPad 2 3G GSM Model Is Carrier Unlocked
If you’re hoping to use iPad 2 3G on T-Mobile’s network or buy it on Ebay as it’s not available in your country then we’ve some good news.
MuscleNerd, member of the iPhone Dev team has confirmed that iPad 2 3G + Wi-Fi GSM model is carrier unlocked.

My I pad 2 wifi won't find it's location usin maps or any other app. The wifi signal is strong and airplane mode is off. Some one else having this problem.?

Only the 3G version has assisted GPS. It is built into the 3G chip. Unfortunately, the wifi version does not have GPS. However, it is a little surprising that your iPad 2 is not doing the location by wifi, like the original iphone did, or the iPad 1. Maybe you have to find a WiFi network that is public, like a starbucks or something, where the location is known.It's disappointing that they dont put the GPS chip in the WiFi version :(

Screenshot shows edge, I guess this means it has the same frequency issues as the Firt iPad.

To use a T-Mob data connection you must get a micro-sim card ... t-mob provides this?. I mean if you already have a regular sim, what do you do? tks

You can cut your regular sim card!! Search in the web how to make a micro sim card. They do have sim card cutter or you can just cut off with scissors. Search it!!

I read the Web on 3G vs 4G and their differences. It "seems" like 3G+LTE is the same performance as 4G - the latter seems to be more appropriate for CDMA. My questions assuming my above assumption are correct: 1) Does ipad 2 suffer from lack of 4G (3G+LTE) support? 2) Does apple have plans for 4G equivalent?Regards

To anyone having trouble with the wifi GPS, I also had that issue until I did a reset of my IPad. Now all my apps that required location are working, including Find My IPhone.

Try doing a reset of your iPad ( holding the sleep and home button at the same time for about 20 seconds) that fixed my wifi GPS problem.

It looks like T-Mobile 3G is not going to work. The specs of it show frequencies that only support ATT 3G, T-Mobile's 1700/2100 frequencies are not supported on it, so looks like no T-Mobile 3G, only edge.

Can I buy the 3g version of iPad 2 from the Apple website in the US from either verizon or at&t to bring it back to my home country?

Raph....you can with at&t but not with verizon. Verizon doesnt have a slot for the microcard and is locked to work only inthe us.

you can get get to work with T-mobile, and no you will not get the 3G connection. Ipad 2 is missing UMTS 1700, which T-mobile used to provide 3G service. you can only get Edge with the unit which is slower but not too bad, I get around 500Kbs speed.
