Which is better, Redsn0w or PwnageTool? I have an iPhone 3GS on new bootrom and I'm on a Mac running the latest version of Snow Leopard. There doesn't seem to be any difference between the two, is there?

If you don't care about unlocking your iPhone then Redsn0w is easier to use. If you care about unlocking and want to preserve your iPhone's baseband then you should use PwnageTool.

Oh, ok. Ya, I just realized that PwnageTool requires you to restore it whereas Redsn0w doesn't. Eh, even though I'll probably never need to unlock, I guess I'll just use PwnageTool since I'm more familiar with it and it seems more complete / professional. Probably less buggy as a result since more time has been put into it. I'm sure there's no noticeable differences though other than the baseband.

It is not just restoring, you first need to create a custom iOS 4.3.1 using PwnageTool and then use it to restore your iPhone to preserve its baseband.

Ya, that's what I meant. Will PwnageTool make me have the pinapple logo? I think I'll use Redsn0w if that's the case. Not that that's a big deal, but I'd prefer the Apple logo over the Dev Team pineapple and there doesn't seem to be any other glaring difference.

tried it on my iPod touch 3G. When installing apps from Cydia, I can't download and install them. On ****, able to download but unable to install. Better not update to iOS 4.3.1.

I jailbroke my ipod tounch 4G and everything went fine except my cydia is an all white icon. It opens for a millisecond then closes on me when i tap it. any ideas?

I know you have probably heard this question like a billion times or not, but I try to download the iPod4,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw and I get a .zip file instead. Am I doing something wrong, or is there something I am missing? Please help.

guys. im a total n00b. i downloaded RedSn0w to my iPod 4G with 4.3 and then i try to open cydia, the screen blinks and then goes back to the main menu. WTF!!!

did all the steps for my ipod 3. However when it gets to the screen "limera" it stops and my device reboots. Any suggestions?

I'm using ipod touch 4g 4.2.1 jailbreak tethered, but i cannot update to 4.3.1. every time i try to update to 4.3.1, i got a messages "the Ipod could not be restore, an unknown erro occurred(3149)"notice: I have tried step 5-6 to update and automatic update. please help me how to update.thank you very much.

This example is using Windows7, Open "My Document"--> Organize -->Folder and search options-->View-->uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"-->you will see the firmware you just download the extensions .zip just change it to .ipsw --> OK. 100% will work!!!

RedsNow would not work as far as upgrading my ipod 3g 8. I followed directions as stated and it would not open in iTunes. When I put the actual upgraded firm ware it says it's not compatible.Any help would be appreciated.

I have jailbroken my ipod touch successfully.Just a little concern, in the future if the next version of IOS is released, can I update the IOS via itune, or do I have to follow some sort of procedure?
