Apple To Offer Over-The-Air iOS Updates For iPhone In iOS 5
9to5Mac reports that according to their sources, Apple is planning to offer iOS software updates over-the-air (OTA).
According to 9to5Mac, Apple is working with Verizon and we assume with other iPhone carriers to offer OTA iOS updates, which will be one of new features introduced in iOS 5 that will be unveiled at next month’s WWDC 2011.
As of now, we need to connect our iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to the computer and update to the latest software update using iTunes.

It just sucks thinking that now our phones will possibly be sending data back saying what version we have, or if we've declined.

well..it looks like there will be untethered jailbreak over the air...that will be the future of jailbreak programs....since everything now wil be over the air...so i think that jailbreak will take that step too...

No way I am updating it over the 3G that will use up more than my allowance 200mb plan. Considering every firmware update is like 250+ mb.

I think it'll probably be fine. We get app store updates over the air when we choose to do it. I bet over the air iOS updates will follow a similar pattern. I bet jailbreaking will still be possible. The dev team will tell us what to do when the time comes.

Being able to do a wireless sync with itunes.. that would better...

No, he's from planet 3G ;-)

If you're close enough on wifi, it wouldnt be that much more of a hassle to do it by cord. The biggest draw to this feature would be to do it somewhere remote where you don't have access to your laptop/desktop. But if it eats into people's monthly data usages, then thats kinda pointless.
