Condé Nast has just launched in-app subscriptions for The New Yorker magazine for iPad. Until now, iPad users didn’t have an option to subscribe for the magazine and had to buy single issues.

This limitation didn’t go down too well will readers as the single issues were quite expensive (priced at $4.99).

    The subscription is more expensive than normal newspaper, in India the TOI costs around $30 a year and thats paper.

    Why can't these publications figure out their cost to deliver a physical copy and the subtract that (adding back the electronic costs) and set the price there. There is no way they are not making much more money on the electronic versions of magazines newspapers and books and it's idiotic. The uptake would be much larger if the real costs were reflected in the prices.
