Apple Proposes Smaller SIM Card Standard To Make Thinner iPhones And iPads
Reuters reports that Apple has proposed a smaller SIM card standard to (European telecoms standards body) ETSI. The proposed SIM card is smaller than the micro-SIM card used in iPhone 4 and iPad.
The smaller SIM form factor will help Apple make thinner iPhones and iPads 3G. Some major mobile operators like Orange are also backing Apple’s new SIM card design.

I'm getting bored with my iPhone.

Hate them too. But I like my iPhone; I can always download more apps. Have you heard of Aha Radio? Pretty cool. Check it out. Maybe it'll buy you a few more weeks on showing off what your phone can do.

Yeah, because my micro sim is making my phone feel so FAT right now.

This is a lovely website i will bookmark it and subscribe for feed..check my site www.talkhyips.com..

30 sq mm at 3/4 of a mm thick... I suppose the could fit another chip of some sort where that sim card would be. I would say that that seems like a trivial amount of space, but as small as they have everything in the phone, that could be the difference between having a separate 4G LTE chip in it if it is not all in one chip. Who knows...

The already thin sim card is now being worked more to reduce the size. However, too thin devices might be a little anorexic even to the next gen gadget enthusiasts. But, it also implies that if the precious internal memory can be saved upon or improved these changes are always welcome.

It is very questionable, how much space gain can be archived with the smaller sim card ? Long time ago apple suggest the flash or OTP type sim card concept, Maybe they need to remove the sim card completely, it is much batter even ther carrier will not want this concept. And, the compatibility will be the other question also.

If the sim number could be programmed into the phone, then the physical chip is not required. The number has no relationship to the phone number, and companies would like it as they could lock down phones from people modding sim cards.

I like my iPhone & I like apple. Very Well.

PSSSST....This is your iphone....apple sent me a message " we dont like you"

Why use a SIM Card at all ? Its should be rather more simple and use a software verification with IMEI?
-
The micro-sim is already bigger then my dik WTF!

Great ! :)) Good to see the industry pushing the standards

just more options...paper or plastic? they need to come out with something more interesting. Iphonehacks... has anyone found out if netpda jb app really works ? if it really hides your usage?thanks,LG

That would probably make it easier to hack, f*** up or mod. I can see it now. A program that clones your sim details and send it to those who want to make loads of calls courtesy of your account. I'd avoid a phone that had a software sim. Just wouldn't feel comfortable/secure with it.

HUH???? that should have been a reply to Deepan WTF?????

You even know what the SIM card do?
