Unlocked iPhone 4 Now Available In U.S.
As rumored, Apple has started selling factory unlocked iPhone 4 in the U.S.
Though Apple has sold contract-free iPhones in the U.S. before, they were still locked to AT&T.
This is first time Apple is selling factory unlocked iPhones, which will allow users to use a SIM card from any GSM carrier.

Could this be used to finally unlock other iPhone 4's? Sound like the scrip could be found, tweaked and imported/transferred. I hope so. I don't want to spend that much on another phone when mine is just being used as an iPod right now.

It should be very good news for the people who travel oversea. I have bought my phones from UK with around $1000 everytime. but, I do not think it is expensive, because I have paid around $200-$300 each trip (4-5 trips every year). It is reduced to $20-30 only.

I think all phones should be unlocked and you should get the discount for signing a two year contract like you do now but they should all be unlocked you wouldn't buy anything else that you had no control over would you? Once you pay for it it's your property period so it should be unlocked.

What about the APN - do these unlocked phones allow the APN to be changed for different carriers when travelling overseas.

I don't think it is worth the premium. Apple can make lots more money if they sold it for less.

I thought the readers of this site were better informed than this, complaining about the price of the factory unlocked iphone 4. Dont you people know that the price is still what you paid for the locked AT&T iPhone 4 if you bought it without a 2 year contract prior to today? People get informed.

Why is it so difficult to unlock iphone4 with latest baseband which came along with 4.3.3? When do you think the unlock will be released?
