iOS 5 Music App Gets Minor Improvements
Firstly, Apple has split the iPod app into a Music app and Video app for iPhone users in iOS 5, just like iPod Touch.
The new Music app is quite similar to the iPod app, but it comes with some minor improvements.
The improvements are as follows:

The equalizer is also fixed. It actually sounds better to turn it on now.

about time!! very useful for movies as there titles in my library are huge
-
i still prefer it as one icon....but im there will be a jb tweak for that real soon.

Does anyone know if we'll finally be able to sort by "Album by Artist/Year"? In iTunes I have everything sorted that way and it would be nice if it stayed that way on my iPhone. I don't like my albums sorted alphabetically? It seems like such an easy thing to implement. I'd be happy if they just gave us sort options in the app.

Why can't they make an adjustable equalizer instead of presets
-
Also, now You can delete music from Music app.
-
tbh i dont think the equalizer was ever that bad... i have always used rock for my normal headphones and treble booster for my senhheisers and it soundsway better than flat

All I would like for the music app is a "+" button that adds the currently playing song to a playlist.I never sit down and actually plan-out playlists. I usually hear a song and realize "That would go well in such a playlist." and want to add it right then. Without such a button it becomes a clumsy process and impossible to do quickly.

Its a good idea to do that. Who uses video, when you got VLC :)
-
We need the ability to RATE a music video - other than in iTunes! Geesh!!!!!
-
These tiny improvements are LONG overdue in what is supposed to be the premiere portable music player. But it's NOT ENOUGH!

What I would like to see in the music app (apart from sorting artists by Album/Year of release) is to enable automatic equalizer based on the genre of music that is saved in the tag info. For instance the equalizer switches to 'Rock' when I play a rock song and so on.

am i the first person to want swipe to switch track in ipod ? im sick of hunting for a tiny fucking skip track icon when im driving and the iphone is docked. i want swipe to switch track, like spotify. its such a simple feature why the hell hasnt ios implemented this yet

Yes!, Finally we can sort by "Album by Artist" on iTunes 10.5. But we've to wait until september when Apple release iOS 5... You can test iTunes 10.5 beta if you want...

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure we're on the same page. I can already sort by "Album by Artist" and "Album by Artist/Year" (The one I use) in iTunes. I have been able to sort this way for a while with the past few versions of iTunes. My problem is this isn't carried over to my iPhone. If I have 5 or 6 albums by an artist, I want them sorted by year, not by title. I'm hoping that Apple will eventually add sort options to the music app. I'm surprised this hasn't already been done. It can't be that hard.If I'm misunderstanding you and there really is something different with the sorting in iTunes 10.5 then please explain. Honestly, I don't think iTunes 10.5 can tell us anything about this. This is something that will have to be updated in iOS.So far, the only way I know to sort by year is to type the year in the sort album field of each track. That is a pain in the ass. If iTunes has my music sorted the way I want and even coverflow is sorted properly, then my iPhone should be able to be sorted the same way.

It would really be useful to be able to assign more than one genre to each track.

The "new" Music.app on iOS 5 on iPad does not support viewing of Audiobook (.m4b / .aa) chapters and their titles. Nor does it provide for direct selection of chapters. This is a loss of functionality compared with the iPod.app on iOS 4.3 on iPad. The prior app provided a means of viewing the chapters and their titles and the direct selection of a desired chapter. The current Music.app does provide for the user to tap the fast forward / backward buttons to skip to chapter marks but there is no display of the chapter title for a selection so there;s no useful way to know where one is in the Audiobook. Further, Audiobooks frequently contain 10s of chapters in a segment (usually limited to around 100 MB / segment (track if you prefer) by Audible). The iPhone (and I presume iPod Touch) version of the Music.app retains the chapter viewing and selection functionality from previous iOS 4.3. Only the iPad version of the app has lost the functionality.Without viewing of chapters and their titles and direct selection of chapters, Audiobooks in the Music.app on iPad are basically unusable.

All these issues can be solved easily... get a device with android running on it

Just sucks that I can't send music from my iphone's playlist to a friend's playlist.with bluetooth or something .. come on even an old nokia can do that

Android: Indeed. Direct comparison between both is not possible. Both world have advantages. Possibilities are *much* more in Androidian world. iPhone world is very tight. Yes sometimes limited.
