iOS 5 Features: Allows You To Hide Keyboard In Messages App
One of the major features in iOS 5 is iMessage, which is Apple’s new messaging service for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, which will allow iOS 5 users to send text, photos, videos, contacts, locations and group messages to their family and friends who have an iOS device.
iMessage includes a number of features to the Messages app, which you can check here, but Apple has also resolved one of the minor irritants.

yea a minor feature that i love from bitesms i use it quite a bit glad to see its now part of the native app

Also, the double vibrate message is gone in ios5 b2, as an option you can go in and turn on custom vibrations. I knew a lot of people were unhappy with that.

Strike that, I made a mistake...

Ok actually it buzzes once if the phone is locked, twice if it's unlocked...

You can hide the keyboard since as long as I can remember. Leave text entry space blank and push "messages" and then go to the conversation that you want and the keyboard will be gone poke the text bob to get it back

U can hide it in iOS 4 by going in and out of the message app or just by going in to a convo with no new msgs. Its a pain but it's still not that hard

I get around this irritant by going back to the list of messages, then selecting a different person's message, then returning back to the original message. Takes a few seconds, is irritating, but it works to get rid of the keyboard.

Once again - very grateful that a long overdue basic feature is finally getting into native.

What I always do is tap on the edit buton and it hides the keyboard even if you are writing, tap cancel and you are back in the texting again.
