iOS 5 Speech-To-Text Feature Revealed
We had heard rumors that Siri’s artificial intelligence and assistance technology may be deeply integrated into iOS 5, before it was unveiled at WWDC 2011 Keynote.
Couple of weeks back, folks at 9 to 5 Mac had published a screenshot from an Apple iPhone test unit, which indicates that the feature will be called Assistant. They have published another screenshot from iOS 5 with a microphone in the standard keyboard.

WOW, this means I will be able txt and drive. I wonder if its going to censor out the cuss words?

This looks like a brilliant feature but I can't help thinking that the microphone button is in a stupid place, people (especially people who type fast) are gonna press it by accident without realising.
-
i was thinking the exact same thing. my fingers are pretty sausage like, so i can imagine ill mess it up a few times
-
can we not hold down a button though to talk how about if using a bluetooth headset be great if we could use it.
-
I agree, it should be below the signal bar.
-
Lot of hard working has gone into this, really unbelievable!
-
I'm sure there will be an option to disable the feature somewhere in the accessability or keyboard settings if it gets annoying.
-
Can't wait :)

I agree. I think it would be better to have it where the globe is and for those who have multiple keyboards, then have it act as one of the keyboards.
-
Or enlarge the typing box height a bit, and have the microphone next to the camera button to the left of the typing box. That would not only create a place for the extra button, but it would also give us one more visible line of text, which would be nice.

You're all a bunch of apple fan boys. Android has had this for EVER!

Do I see a whole new avatar of "Damn You Auto Correct" coming up?
-
But apple having this feature means it will be flawless, easy and practical to use

so, how do you turn this feature on? I have the latest beta, but I'm not seeing an option for this.

Flawless voice to text? I'll believe that when I see it.

I wish to point out my passion for your generosity supporting women who should have assistance with this one subject matter. Your special commitment to passing the message all through appears to be particularly practical and have all the time enabled regular people just like me to get to their pursuits. The informative suggestions can mean much to me and still more to my office workers. With thanks; from all of us.
