iPhone Users In Korea File $25 Million Class-Action Lawsuit Against Apple For Location Tracking Issue
Back in May Apple had released iOS 4.3.3 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and iOS 4.2.8 for Verizon iPhone to fix the iPhone and iPad 3G location tracking bug, which had raised a lot of controversy.
It all started when Security Researcher Alasdair Allan at the University of Exeter revealed that iPhone and iPad 3G regularly tracks your iOS device and records the co-ordinates along with timestamp in a hidden file.

I think the USA should follow suite

If your phone has GPS then your already been tracked, not accurately, but well enough to perform a warm start when acquiring GPS data. If they didn't do this it would take you 2-3 mins to acquire satelites every time you wanted to use GPS. I for one don't mind this as I have nothing to hide and most iPhone users voluntarily sign up for Mobile Me's Where's My iPhone service anyway!I bet after the lawsuit is done and dusted the Koreans don't ditch their iPhones, proving that they are only after a payout! Maybe we should send them cheap Chinese imports instead and really give them something to complain about :-)
-
Koreans have lost their mind.
-
I saw that apple should just pay them off and get out of Korea. And never do business with them ever again.
-
every since apple was announced to be the top company in the world people are tying to bring apple down! just sad
-
No, they're doing that on their own. STOP drinking the Kool-Aid!!
-
Hey Steve Jobs, you should boycott Korea or charge them extra for the iphone 5 then we could see how they would care about locational track with no iphone product anymore. Let them buy from American users for twice the value. I'm sure the complaining will stop then.

What about all the apps that have data analysis and usage/statistics tracking that phone home. And you don't know any of this unless you have ipfirewall installed. We never authorized this did we?

I think the point is basically, that the information was not encrypted and that over a years worth of location info was stored in the unencrypted file. (my understanding of the issue)Any app could access that info without the prior consent of the individual.I'm not up to any nefarious practices, but I do value my privacy. I own a 3g which was not covered by the update. So i'm still vulnerable to this issue. I'm tempted to sue for invasion of privacy. I reserve the right as an individual to know what personal information is shared with 3rd party organisations and to withold any info i deem to be none of their sodding buisness.

what do u mean by cheap Chinese imports? if u don't already know, all the iPhones are made in china.

**** em

considering all major parts that goes into iphone, ipads are made in Korea by Korean companies like Samsung and LG, it sounds funny that Apple is being sued by users in Korea. At this point, Apple and Samsung are suing each other for copyright infringement at the same time in Samsung's perspective Apple is one of the major buyer.
