AT&T Eliminating $10 Text Messaging Plan For New Customers From August 21st
Engadget reports that AT&T is eliminating the $10 per month text messaging plan for new customers that allowed users to send 1000 free text messages. This means that new customers have the option of either opting for the $20 unlimited text messaging plan or pay $0.20 per SMS.
AT&T spokesperson has also confirmed the report and has stated that the $10 per month plan won't be available from August 21st.
AT&T has issued the following statement:

Why does anybody still pay for texting? Just get a Google Voice number and text for free.
-
Thats a ripoff!!! We need a new unlocking tool ASAP!!

AT&T is starting to piss me off.
-
Starting to??
-
Looks like my Iphone 5 gonna use textfree alot

Instead of taking competition head on, they have done what they do best, make it even more expensive for their customers.Yup AT&T deffo suffer from "head up own arse" syndrome lol
-
Glad I'm grandfathered in and don't have to deal with this BS. This utterly retarded.
-
ATT is such an arse company, I hate them!

I still have the $5 a month, 200 text messages plan. I also have the unlimited data plan. I keep saying that as long as so many people have smartphones and data plans, I will not upgrade to a higher costing texting plan for my iPhone. I currently use Textfree for texting (a free program) and it works well. I also make use of IM programs. Why pay more? They are raping us with what we are charged for already.

What a f..n joke

Wow, this is bogus but it doesn't mention anything about current customers and only says new customers so I think I'm on the safe boat. Anyways it's still bogus.
-
Atet are the greedyest fagots on the earth **** them.
-
Verizon will follow suit just like they did with the data caps.. thankfully i'm grandfathered in but I'm sure ATT will find a way to **** me over like they're trying to do with the unlimited data plans.

Five years from now AT&T will announce bankcrupt
-
wtf.. they just added the 1500 message plan like a year ago...
-
Next year when they come out with family data pools it will be worse. If they try to f*** me one more time I will change.
-
20/30$ is too much for every month. I doubt anyone would buy their plan. BS strategy ATT.

I stopped using my GV for texting, cuz their app SUCKS for texting. Late notifications, messages wouldn't mark as read, and worst of all it didn't work with elert. I use textfree on occasion, but mainly use my regular text app. I'm still on the $5 plan, and rarely exceed it. When iOS 5 comes out, I'll NEVER exceed it again. As the article says, it'll be my backup.

Grandfathered in: "Existing customers don't have to change any messaging plan they have today, even when changing handsets."
