Apple Increases Flash Memory Purchases From Japanese Suppliers To Reduce Dependence On Samsung
Citing industry sources, DigiTimes reports that Apple has increased its purchases of flash memory from Japanese suppliers like Toshiba and Elpida Memory to reduce its reliance on Samsung. Considering Apple's strained relationship with Samsung, it doesn't really come as much of a surprise that Apple decided to broaden its supplier base and move away from Samsung.
The report says:

Samsung was obviously not concerned or they wouldn't have bitten the hand that was feeding them in the first place.
-
Wouldn't that be good for the economy for Japan too?

Its nothing to do with Samsung, its just increased demand.

Well for a company that's making over 9 billion a year from supplying components to Apple, I would say they're biting the hand that feeds them. Apple's looking for other suppliers due to increased demand, but also to reduce their dependency on Samsung. How many phones/tablets would Samsung have to sell to make up that 9 billion if they lost Apple as a customer completely? Is it worth fighting Apple over? Apparently to them, it is.

Like samsung care!!! Sony now use samsung lcd panels, apple use samsung, just about everyone on the planet uses samsung in some way. 9 billion is chump change to samsung. Not one electronic device manufactored does not have samsung somewhere in the component listings. Iphone are for old people anyway, way too slow and really only for people who love too be dictated too. What idiot buys a product out right then gets told by the company that they cannot use it the way they wish?? That too me shows clearly apple users are simple, if not breaching on dumb!

$9Bill is "chump change" to Samsung? On what planet? Almost 10% of total revenue and Samsung's largest client does not add up to chump change. They bit the hand that fed them and now they will pay the price. Tim Cook is a supply line guy and will make sure Apple has plenty of parts with secure and cooperative supply manufacturers.

You must not know that Apple is Samsung's biggest customer. Apple has secured components in such large numbers that caused supply constraints for Samsung's competitors; meaning other companies were unable to procure parts simply because Samsung has bought them all to deliver finished components to Apple.Once Apple abandons Samsung as a supplier, whoever they go to next will have that luxury. 9 billion and rising is not chump change.I'll ask again. How many phones/tablets will Samsung have to sell to make up that loss? 1 billion = 1,000 million in case you didn't understand the scope of that figure. Add in advertising costs and you'll see how easy a guaranteed 9 million per year is with no advertising costs involved.
