iPhone 5 To Support HSPA+ "4G" Speeds?
Japanese blog Macotakara reports that Deputy Director of Research Huang Wenliang of China Unicom executive revealed in a presentation at this week's Macworld Asia that Apple's iPhone 5 will support HSPA+ technology. China Unicom is currently the exclusive iPhone carrier in China.
HSPA+ offers a theoretical peak download speeds of 21Mbps (up from 7.2 Mbps), which is marketed by many GSM carriers around the world as 4G technology.

Why would I wait for the fastest later, maybe much later when I could have a demonstratible increase now. I'll take improvements as they come, nirvana will never arrive.

since i live in a more rural area im pretty certain i wont be getting 4G anytime soon so whatever speed increase i can get till then will work for me. I just hope its iPhone 5 there coming out with and not just iPhone 4s

HSPA+ is a given on the next iphone. Anyone with knowledge of HSPA+ know if it shares the same frequency as HSPA 3g? I don't know what changed, but in the last year or so, signal in my area seems to be degraded.

I would take it in a heartbeat. I only need a little more speed as it is since I can easily see speeds of 220 kB/s where I live. Anything above that would be a welcome upgrade
-
why sign up for a 2 year contract when iphone lte will be here in 2012... Verizon let is up in most places and is way faster than hspa+

can the carrier supply the speed 4G needs?
-
Because no one knows for sure when the next iteration will come out. It could be 16 months from now. The next best thing will always be just around the corner. If you wait for that one, you might as well wait for the one after that, and so on.

I think Verizon probably has better coverage but the major issue is the fact I talk on the phone and use the internet connection on my phone all the time. Not having the ability to talk to a friend and use my data connection at the same time is kind of important.

Well as i was HOPING that the next gen iPhone would BE LTE, I GUESS HSPA+ will have to Do for now cause i don't think I can wait till 2013 for a LTE Iphone.

VERIZON do have the ability to do voice over data on 3G and 4G on the HTC Thunderbolt. Hopefully the iPhone will be able to do the same.
-
Then a Verizon launch makes sense.

I stand corrected....somewhat. From what I understand the Thunderbolt is the exception moreso than the rule on verizon's network. Also, it seems this only works with true LTE phones which the iphone 5 doesn't appear to be.

Wow,HSPA+21MPS,Dual core processor,1gig Ram,8MP Camera and in the the same design after 16months!!!!So, just the same specs a Sammy GS2 but with a smaller screen...You should have done better than this Apple...There is no excuse for a 4S...none...Many of us are gonna walk this time...
