Apple Offers iPhone Micro USB Adapter To Comply With EU Standards
Chris Rawson of TUAW reports that Apple has begun offering a micro USB adapter that can be used to connect iPhone to a micro USB cable to sync and charge, or to a micro USB charger to charge.
The adapter is available in the UK Apple Store and means that Apple now complies with the EU's regulations.

When it was so easy to convert the connector to a Mini-USB why they do not ship it ex works with that instead of the broad connector? Well now there are a lot of other devices out there like speakers to connect directly to the iPod, iPhone etc. but why not change to a smaller part.... also it would save space on the Apple-device...

Because the dock connector is not only for sync and charge. By having many more pins, you can do more than just that. Like HDMI out, VGA out, connect to third party devices, etc. All using the same connector, just with different connections inside. If you look at the Galaxy Tab, they have a similar type of connector too.

Finally! A modicum of sense prevails! ... as long as folks carry the phone around with that adapter sticking out of it! (or carry it in their kit bag) ... well, maybe it was half a modicum of sense, maybe the other half will prevail by the time of iphone7 ...
