There has been some confusion whether you will be be able to use a local GSM micro-SIM in the  CDMA iPhone 4S (which also comes with the micro-SIM card slot since it is a world phone) while travelling internationally, so that you can pay cheap local rates instead of the expensive international roaming rates.

AWESOME NEWS!! I sure hope it's true. Mostly because I am running a 3GS on Tmobile currently. If Sprint can't deliver on signal where I need it, I can keep my Tmobile. Although my service coverage on Tmobile has really been deteriorating over the last 6-9 months (related to the AT&T merger attempt?). and the reason why I'm forced to find a better carrier. I've never had much faith in Sprint, I must admit. We'll see. At least 50% of the people I see on a daily basis use an iPhone on AT&T. Their service is less reliable than my Tmobile, so going to AT&T is not an option. Verizon seems to have the best coverage. I may end up there, hoping not.BTW.. while the "world phone" argument makes sense, I have 4 or 5 old GSM phones sitting in a drawer which I can pull from while traveling abroad. yeah, i can live with out the latest iphone for a week.

You cannot use the iPhone 4s on T-Mobile network. Even though Sprint and Verizon unlocked the SIM card it does NOT support U.S GSM frequency used by T-Mobile.

I meant tmobile US frequency is locked out. You"ll still need a factory unlocked to use on tmobile (2g) network.

Can't use 3g/4g on Tmobile because apple is still in bed with carriers? Another GOOD REASON to boycott iphone for now and SWITCH TO ANDROID iOS ASAP! Android is faster, has a micro-SD slot so you can backup to an SD and if your phone crashes/breaks away from home, you will eventually be able to restore from the SD-card in minutes, not hours or days, (just like in the old treos!) without having to lug a laptop around or wait for 5-days while icloud TRIES to rebuild your phone data on some expensive international per-minute data scenario. Remember, a professional is gauged not by what he does when things go right, but what he does when things go wrong. PLEASE WRITE APPLE and say we need an SD slot on the iphone. Now that Jobs is gone, maybe the the apple team will become a bit more pragmatic instead of all zen/funshyish because he won't be there to say 'that's ****' to their faces.
