imageLocation Services Bug May Be Responsible For iPhone 4S Battery Life Issues

Substantial battery drain on the iPhone 4S, reported earlier, might be because of a bug in the way iOS 5 handles location services. Switching on "Setting Time Zone," an option buried deep in the Settings app, might result in location services being called too frequently resulting in the excessive battery drainage.

I noticed that Time Zone was constantly pulling my location a few days after I got the 4S. I immediately turned that off.

The moment I got installed ios 5 on my iphone 4, I immediately turned off all System Services and did not have any issues with my battery drainage. Same goes for my iPhone 4S. I turned off these system services since first day I got it. No issue on battery drainage on mine. But I agree having these system services on can drain battery, if not dramatically.

Hopefully Apple will also give back the 3G enable/disable switch in their first bugfix-release... I would like to have decent phone conversations in areas where 3G is week (but not week enough to let my iPhone 4S auto-switch to 2G/edge).

Working very well since I turned this off! Got to 50% at 4 pm and I would normally be at 50% by around noon on my iphone 4.

Skipping the 3G/2G switch was actually a bad idea. Unless I'm streaming a video or something, I like to stay on 2G

This, and also turning off the weather widget dramatically improves battery life, even better than 4.3.3 on my iPhone 4.

Yup, even the whether widget pulls in location data.

i got a bigger beef with location services. It keeps dropping signal after every few seconds. When is apple going address that issue? I googled it and found out that i'm not the only one with this issue. If you turn off location services "all of them" the problem goes away. Kinda hard to get directions when you have to keep inputing your location.

However you can turn off location service for Weather and still have it on widget, and that should not drain battery. I have Weather widget on my notification center turned on but location service turned off for weather, and my battery doesn't drain at all.

Apple made iphone 4 last longer by underclocking 1GHz to 800MHz..maybe they could just do the same on the iphone 4s huh? 800MHz down to 600MHz dual core.. lawl~

This was a fantastic tip, it increased my 4S' battery life by 2.5 times! I am a heavy user, take it off the charger at 7 am and plug it back by 10/11 pm. When I first got my iPhone 4S, I'd have to charge it 2 - 3 times a DAY! Now I can even come home trashed, tell Siri to wake me up and still have 10% to work with in the morning, then its car-charger time!

Thank you so much for the tip. I think this also fixed the signal drop issue. Fingers crossed that it keeps, as I'd like to keep location services on....
