Here's How Siri's "Raise To Speak" Feature Works
Siri is one of the coolest features of the new iPhone 4S, and its "raise to speak" feature lets you activate it easily at any time. But how does it work?
iFixit figured out the answer to that question during the teardown of the device.
iFixit's discovered a different component near the ambient light sensor during the iPhone 4S teardown. It's an infrared LED, which works in conjunction with the proximity sensor.

It's not just the proximity sensor. It may also use the gyroscope/accelerometer to detect fast movements similar to putting a phone toward the cheek.
