Future iPhones May Come With Shock Absorbers To Protect Screen When You Drop It
A new patent filing uncovered by Patently Apple illustrates Apple's solution to prevent the glass found on a number of Apple devices from cracking when dropped.
The solution detects free fall through accelerometers found on all iOS devices, and subsequently takes action to protect the glass screen. Apple uses the same arrangement in MacBooks as well, to protect hard drives from damage arising due to drops.

I dont know but I find this very funny. On the other hand I find it GREAT! I wont have to use a stinkin silicone case like I do on my iPhone 4.

Do you suppose Siri will scream when you drop her?

I would buy one in an instant if it did.

it would make more sense if the phone activated an anti-gravity field when it was dropped. the down side of this ofcourse would be fanboys could no longer be thrown off cliffs or high buildings :( spoilsports lol

Even though many of Apple's patents never see the light of day, this one really sounds interesting, and I'll definitely keep an eye out for it.

As an aerobatic pilot I do 0G and negative G all the time... This could be annoying if it thinks it's fallin each time!!! A scarier thing is if Apple starts to use this to discount their warranty - "sorry, you dropped your phone, ir's not covered..." hmmm....
