How To Unlock iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS Without Jailbreaking [Updated]
It looks like a bug in iOS 5 allows you to unlock iPhone 4S without the need to jailbreak it or using hardware methods such as GEVEY SIM.
The bug was discovered by Michael Capozzi. He managed to unlock his iPhone 4S to use it on T-Mobile USA's network but according to him the method should also work with any GSM carrier.
He has been kind enough to also give the following step-by-step guide to unlock iPhone 4S using the bug in iOS 5 to work on T-Mobile USA:

How come when he restarts his iPhone the apple symbol expands towards you... I have had an iPhone since 3Gs model and I have never had my apple symbol expand towards you as its loading Is this possibly a jailbreak of some sort ??
-

-

-
I have the 4s and iPad 2 update to iOS 5.0.1 and I do not have glowing expanding apple logo... Tried on both devices... I think hes got something done to his phone
-
Does the tmobile sim need to be actived line?
-
Is this working on iOS 5.0.1
-
Does this work on uk networks
-
Can someone please confirm this on an iPhone 4 running on baseband 04.11.08?
-
No he does not. Thats the first start boot up from Ios5. Don't jump to conclusions.
-
is this work for iPad 2?
-
don't at&t own t mobile and share networks now? in uk orange and t mobile have joined and you can activate a locked to orange phone with a t mobile sim. would be interesting to see if it works with another network.

The apple logo on my 4s does expand & shine but only after a data erase before restore from icloud. It happens only once per erase/restore. Not every reboot. I'm not sure what happen to that video.

I am in indian, i bought my at&t iphone 4 with BB 4.10.01. I am using a Airtel network. Till now i was using GEVEY sim and its working fine. I upgraded to iOS 5.0 while preserving the baseband so its working fine with GEVEY sim.I tried this method now. It didnt work for me on iphone 4. May be because there is no AT&T network in India. Also when I put my Airtel sim the activation required screen does not come.Any suggessions ???- Pankaj

I wonder if an active T-mobile prepaid sim would do the trick or it needs to be postpaid.
-
Hm, would this work on my japanese iphone? i have it unlocked w/ gevey at the moment, but i still have the original softbank sim, so could i unlock this with my at&t sim?
-
Is that only after a restore because when I got my iphone 4s and turned it on for the very first time I never got that glowing expanding apple logo. I have never seen that before that is why I asked? But thanks for the explanation...

I bought a Att iPhone without a contract from apple for $649 I activated it using a tmobile sim card and it unlocked the phone without going thorugh this hassle. The modern firmware was 01.xxx. If you activate a iPhone 4 using the att sim card the model firmare becomes 04.11.08 and that cannot be unlocked using this method. plus if the iPhone model is MC319LL you cannot unlock it

Is a glitch and its more likely that apple will fix this on the upcoming software update
-
iphone 4s moderm firmware being 1.0.11. Model MD257Cwonder if that can be unlocked with this methood. signed up with fido a canadian provider.
-
No sh**.
-
try it since your firm ware is 01. i think it should work
-
how come when he has airplane mode on he can see wifi isnt it suppose to stop that
-
what baseband or firmware do you have to be on. Just tried it on my iphone4 04.xx.xx and no works.
-
I also used a prepaid at&t account...GoPhone. Does this also make a difference?

Looks intriguing, but raises many questions. 1) What basebands can be use this method?2) What models can use this method?3) Is it a permanent unlock?4) Do you have to be in the US as there is a connection to AT&T in the video?5) Will the unlock work with other carriers besides T-Mobile?Seems exciting, yet I can't help but feel suspicious.
