Analyst Claims iPad 3 To Get QXGA Retina Display
CNET reports that the iPad 3's display is, in fact, a retina display with a QXGA resolution. Furthermore, the analyst claims that the displays are already in production.
Richard Shim, an analyst as DisplaySearch, confirmed the details of the upcoming iPad 3's screen during an interview a few days ago. He confirms that the display will have a QXGA resolution:
"It's happening--QXGA, 2048x1536. Panel production has started [for the next-generation iPad]. There's three suppliers."

ipad 3 will be unbeatable by any tegra 3 tablet ..... it will be worlds first retina hd display tablet
-
holy sh**. so that means we can watch videos above 1080p videos??? there is no hd high resolution than 1080p so that will be wasted of retina display...

"retina" is not a display type, it's a marketing term to make it sound special.

They use the term "retina" because the product has more then 300 PPI (Pixels per inch) Apple says that the human eye can not see all the pixels because the eye only can see 300 PPI so with the ultra high resolution display will put the iPad 3 over the 300 PPI mark.

Ohhhhh.....!!!!!!

There are newer 2k and 4k resolutions coming soon that put 1080p to shame!
-
My only worry is that a device with this kind of resolution will run like a dog unless they really beef up the CPU considerably. The last thing I want to see is a device that is not capable of 60fps in games (OpenGL) and 30fps in native desktop apps (Cocoa).

Analysts are paid to claim!

They may put 1080p to shame technically, but it's pointless as you'll never see the different on 99% of the video you watch.
