Never had this issue on my iphone 4S 5.0.1. It must be the wireless issue on their end.

I'd bet it has to do with people's router and settings. I found that wpa and aes works best with iPhones. Also there's a matter of 802.11g or 802.11n. I have a mix of devices so g/n mixed is a must. Rebooting their router should be one of the first troubleshooting steps.

I'm having this problem using a Fios router. Connectivity gets lost after waking. WiFi on/off toggle clears issue temporarily but I find myself just using 3G as an alternative.

I've had this issue with my iPhone 4S since I've first got it. Sometimes, it randomly doesn't want to connect to the internet while it's connected to Wifi. In other occasions, specifically when connecting to the App Store, it gives me a notification "please connect to a secure network", turning on and off the Wifi setting usually fixes the problem for a while.

My iPhone 4 ios5 doesn't have the issue, but my girlfriends iPhone 4 iOS 5.01 has a problem where it gets an out of range IP address, I have a DHCP server running, and if her Internet is not working, I have to forget the network, then rejoin it, but in 30 min it has gone back to the older IP. I have since set her IP as static, so hopefully it will just keep working with that until a fix is released.

On iPad 2 with ios 4.3.3 I noticed that WiFi connectivity can be lost while browsing the internet in Browser. It is sufficient to go to Home screen, wait for WiFi icon to appear and then switch back to browser and you can continue browsing or watching videos.Strange, but it happened many times, and not only in browser. Also in other applications and also on iPhone. Switch to Home screen, wait for WiFi icon to appear and switch back to application. It always helps, so I guess it is iOS software issue.

I´ve had this problem since my first iphone 3G, also on 3GS and then on iPhone 4 - solution was always switching router on/off. So i think it´s not only iOS 5 fault. Pretty annoying :-/

have you guys checked the channel on your router, log in and do a should be a tab for site survey, it will find other wireless routers in the area then choose a channel not used, default is normally auto. I found it normally chooses channel 6.... 5 other routers in my area all on channel 6.Hope this helps

...we all use the wifi at home my brother uses the the wifi for his ipad my sister uses it for her ipod touch and her iphone 4s with no problem at all but i can only use the wifi for my ipod touch i also have an iphone but it's the one that came out before the iphone4 and it can't even find the wifi network that we are using at home and it can't find no other networks either...so i don't know if it's an apple problem a telstra problem or just the phone itself...the other thing i'm not happy about the iphone is that you can't receive pic messages(mms)..the only way to view the pic is to go onto the telstra website and view it that way which is pathetic..

Hi there, I have two iP4 in the same Wireless WPA network with static IP assignment. After upgrading one of them to iOS5.0.1, Wireless network connection was totally lost. The other iP4 with, iOS5, worked and still works fine.Solution (thanks to jus-sayin 's suggestion!): Changing the broadcast Channel (e.g. from 3 to 12) on the Router Wireless configuration. Issue was automatically solved. I did not have to change any config on the iPhone. Enjoy!

I have updated my son's ipad 1 from ios 3.2 to 5.01. I have since then lost access to internet. It seems that the ipad is connecting to the router (Apple airport extreme) but unable to get an ip address and the wifi icon doesn't appear on the toolbar. I also created a network using my MacBook, the ipad connects to this network but still no ip assigned and no wifi signal icon appearing. So obviously this is not due to my router but to something in ios 5.01! All Macbooks, iMacs and iPhones are properly working on our home network. This is very frustrating to me and my son, I wish I have never upgraded!!!!

Some of the connectivity issues mentioned can generally be traced back to the security that is being used. Most current iOS devices don't like WEP security. Change the router to WPA or WPA2. I've helped a number of people with that issue and changing security fixed the problem. Now, the WiFi dropping while it is being used.I updated to iOS 5.1. Prior to the update, we would stream movies from iTunes through the phone and into the video on our VCR. OK, we are old fashioned. The problem that occured was that after a period of time, the movie would stop playing. Checking the phone, WiFi was gone and 3G was on. This was repeatable on several different movies. Most times several times through the movie. The fix. I went into networking and turned off cellular data. (I also turned off 3G, but with cellular data off, it should be sufficient) By doing that, I have been able to watch several of the movies that we were having problems with. The phone was not touch during each movie. My theory is that in an effort to save battery life, there is monitoring software that is looking for some sort of user activity. If there is no user activity, turn off WiFi and save the juice. If the iPhone just sits on the desk and is on, after a few minutes, the WiFi will go away and show 3G. As soon as you do something on the screen, the phone connects back to WiFi. When it does this during a movie, we have had to exit the video app, goto into settings and connect to the WiFi again. Real pain.Anyway, if you are experiencing this sort of issue, turn off cellular data when you are going to be using WiFi for any period of time where the phone might not be touched.

Not the case. My iPad 2 and iPhone 4 have no problems since update, but my iPod 3g is unable to join the wifi network despite seeing it with full signal. The ip address etc are all wiped and unable to be entered so its an issue that has occured only since update :(
