Mod Your iPhone 4S With Transparent Glass Back Panel
One of the coolest things about iPhone 4 and now the iPhone 4S is the glass back panel. It's one of the reasons we prefer an iPhone bumper over a traditional iPhone case, which covers the back.
But if you're bored of the glass panel or looking to replace your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S' broken back panel then iFixit has a cool alternative.

This would be an awesome idea if someone wanted to embed their own designs underneath the glass. Slapping a sticker on the back of a phone just doesn't cut it :)

Had a brushed metal back on my iPhone 4; it does not fit 4S. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this will NOT fit iPhone 4.

After reading about the exploding iphones, I don't think I will change the backplate.

Not only is this old news, but they are much cheaper alternatives elsewhere. I got a true transparent glass back cover off of eBay for $6 w/free shipping. Of course it was Chinese made, but really, what isn't? I recently dropped my iphone 4 and the rear glass cover cracked (that's why I know it's actually glass), so I'm shopping around for another replacement. In the meantime, I've put my brushed aluminum cover back on. Such an easy mod, and cheap if you take the time to shop around. Don't pay $29!!!

Couldn't you just take your stock back plate off, and use some sort of solvent to dissolve the black color on the inside of the glass, then dry and re attach?

Bahhh , iphonehacks has the right to make money , for myself , i prefer my iphone without any back glass , wood is perfect , home made , falled many times , no problems so far ;)

I have seen these and have thought about buying one in the past but no one seems to acknowledge the fact that your reception will not be as strong when you put a different back on that doesn't have the stick-on auxiliary antenna. That's what the gold plated pressure contact (beside the battery connector) is for.

Pointless!! It'd be one thing if the internals of the iPhone were amazing like an old pocket watch or something. Looking at a battery... I'm good!

Bought this back cover from iFixit, tried to mount it just 1 m ago and it doesn't fit as well as the original back cover. Also, I noticed the aux antenna too, and you are totally right.Would not recommend.
