U.S. Cellular Says iPhone Isn't Cutting Edge Enough To Consider It
Last month, we found out that U.S. Cellular - the sixth largest carrier in the United States refused to carry the iPhone due to Apple's terms which the company found "unacceptable". It was revealed by US Cellular's CEO Mary Dillon.
Fierce Wireless reports that while speaking at the UBS 39th Annual Global Media and Communications Conference, TDS (parent to U.S. Cellular) CEO Ted Carlson has this excuse to give why U.S Cellular does not offer Apple's iPhone:

Why do you think it's an excuse..?
-
True dat the 4s is a good phone it just was not cutting edge enough for me and alot of of people to waste and upgrade for a small iphone upgrade.
-
their loss' while it's ATT, Verizon, and now Sprint's gain'
-
not to mention by the time US Cellular finally rolls out their LTE network.. the above carriers will have theirs set in for the new iPhone 5 with LTE support.. so who cares about US cellular..

If the iPhone is not cutting edge enough, why does it account for 52% of the handheld industry's operating profits last quarter? Seems like most people are pretty happy with their iPhones!

iPhone is behind in technology these days.... it's not an excuse, they have better phones on the market to choose ....
-
Errr, like what?
-
Yeah. This whole internet fad is on its way out...HAHA!!
-
Even though I have a 4s.. I agree it should've been bigger... However NONE of the other phones even come close :) I upgraded coz my 3gs was getting troublesome and was battered and bruised
-
And in no way by bigger do I mean the screen ;)

Look iPhone is not "behind" in tech apple knows if you throw in every new piece tech available like other Company's have average Joe gets confused they like to ease everyone in to it.They have never been about the power user and never will be.The iPhone is meant to be a phone that even grandma and grandkids can pick up and jump straight in and use no probsI don't know why ppl don't get this. That's why they are selling like hot cakes not because they can do it all
-
And U.S. Cellular wonders why their 6th largest in carries! (i don't)
-
So true. Its both simple and advanced at the same time. :O

It’s true, the iPhone isn’t cutting edge, and the strongest point of the iPhone is the design and an excellent marketing. The iPhone is always behind in technology (except for the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G) now top of the line phone from other brands do the same thing and outperform in others. But looking at this from the perspective of a carrier its stupid because this phone sells a lot and people love it so this is not a real excuse for not selling the iPhone!!!

52% of the nation are NOT using iPhone. Where are you getting your stats? USCellular wouldn't handle the power that iPhone requests. Even Sprint still hasn't caught up with the iPhones request and many sprint users are still not happy with their iphone.

I find SE Arc for example much better than iphone. Arc allows freely copying and carrying content and documents without cloud services - just plug into USB without annoying installation of itunes. Technically it is about the same, but allows you to do much more - much more freedom. Works flawlessly.

Apple are interested in profit! They leave there products a slightly lower spec so people by the newer one the following year! The only thing that keeps apple ahead is the app support! You apple fans are really caught in there net. By the way I do like apple products but im open to others!!!

The Apple TOS are not cutting enough to make them get it on their network.

I did not say that 52% of Americans have iPhones. Please note I said "iPhones make up 52% of the handheld industry's profits."

They're just looking for free publicity and hoping to gain the android and carrier underdog sympathizers. That'll only get them so far. They're obviously satisfied with being #6 and that's perfectly fine and profitable at their scale. Consumers who want an iphone will just jump to a carrier that has it.
