Kindle Fire's Usability Report is Out - Do You Still Want a 7-Inch iPad?
Back in 2010, Steve Jobs had famously taken a dig at Apple's competitors for launching tablets that sport a 7-inch screen. Steve Jobs had this to say about upcoming tablets from Apple's competitors at that time:

NEVER wanted it! my mother is deeply in love with her iPad and can't even live without it!love you Steve :) RIP
-
How can Jobs say 7" is too small when his iPhone is literally half of that and perfectly usable?
-
I think Steve meant that size for tablets, Isaac. I'm using my iPod right now and it isn't too big nor small for my clunky fingers.
-
Yeah isaac.... Think!

good point.

I tried out a fire at Best Buy, looking for a cheaper alternative to an iPad for a christmas gift for someone less inclined to use all the iPad has to offer....in my opinion, the graphics were very nice and the display very crisp. An advantage for being 7" ... but, I found the performance of the machine overall extremely laggy. I opened a magazine on the demo and the lag time flipping pages was horrible. I have never had lag anywhere near that bad on the iPad. Mind you double the price, so you are getting what you pay for. Definitely not an iPad killer, but acceptable for a low price tablet, if you can accept moderate lag.

Isaac,You need to figure out the difference between a Phone and a tablet b4 making this statement.

That's because iPad and iPhone don't run the exact same iOS. The iPad IS NOT just a big iPod touch.

I bought a Fire for my mom and she just left back to the mainland. After using it for a couple of days I could see a 7" iPad. It fits so much better in your hands. it does enough for my mom and she loves it but it can't compete with the graphics and usability that I'm use to with my iPad. I just like the size.

Can u not zoom in with the Fire? If not, that sucks, but it would solve the problem for that guy who couldn't log into Facebook. That's what I do with my iPhone :-)

This is all BS, I bought an kindle fire for my gf and because she hated using my iPad, though she like it when we are on the go and watching netflix, she found the iPad to be uncomfortable to handle. On the other hand she loves the kindle, not in a day haven't i seen her type away on it. She is doing a Phd and even use it for some of her research and assignment. I for one prefer the iPad just because i'm an apple fun but to say you can't type with fat finger on the kindle is totally BS. The people saying iPhone run an different iOS from the iPad are drinking too much of the apple cool aid. The iOS running in the two are not much different and for someone to complain about not being about to type on a 7" to open Facebook but can type on an iPad or ipodtouch to open Facebook needs their head examined. People need to give credit where credit is due. Two of the reasons i love the iPhone and iPad is because i can get the premium apps for free. You Rock ****. Take that away and i will switch before you say jack.

I never wanted a 7" iPad... But then, I never wanted the 10" one either!I still don't understand why everyone wants the giant iPod touch.
-
I am a iPad user, and love it. My wife tried a Kindle Fire and we both like it very much. I would buy a 7 inch iPad immediately, the form factor is right for mobile use and would compliment my iPhone well.

Please tell me english is your second language. If it's your first then trying to believe your GF is working on her Phd, or you have a GF of that caliber, blows my mind.
-
true that why does everyone like the iPad?? if you have an iPhone iPad is just too much overkill.....i'd much rather get a transformer prime

I said it back then, I'll say it now: the reason Jobs gave for no 7" iPad is BS. I won't say the iPhone and the iPad are the same, but the fact that I can use an iPhone at all to surf the web and do all the things it does so well, means that 7" is not too small. Now that I have an iPad, I doubt I would also get a 7" version, but I can see the allure of 7 instead of 10 for a huge price difference. Though I doubt it would be half, more like 60-75%. Pricing of the device isn't really based on parts - unsubsidized iPhones are about the same as the iPad.

Don't be nasty. Blow up dolls are now allowed to get a PhD. It's all about equality...

Picked up an HTC Flyer 7" Tab, use to own an iPad, the 7" form factor is so much nicer than that of the iPad. You can grip it in one hand, it's widescreen so watching movies with no bars is nice, it fits in my wifes purse, it looks like a proper book page when reading books, it's just a better size for a tablet. And while not related to the size, android is a lot less boring than looking at a grid of icons. I really like the widgets, animated backgrounds, etc. This is my first android device, but definitely not my last.

No wonder Apple dumped the 7inch idea long ago.

I already buy two Kindle Fire’s in my family using now. So far I don't see anything problem. Compare with ipad, is it so cheap and have a lots of App/Game e,t,c at amazon/app for free. I hope nest product Amazon will be have 10 inch. I will buy more Fire's using in my family next release Kindle Fire's 10inch.Kennedy

and who told u that they don't run the same software? they do run the same software which is IOS.

I really like the kindle fire. So far so good I don't see any problem except the small storage of 8GB and I also wish it is lighter like kindle touch 3rd generation so it will be easier to hold when laying down. The 7 inches is perfect for my 2.5 yrs old girl to hold, read her books, play educational games, watch her favorite Dora shows streamed via NextFix and Amazon Prime. Kindle Fire is a much better "toy" comparing to Fisher Price XL touch screen book and V tech Vreader : each book or app at Kindle Fire costs from only $.10-$3.99 vs $19.99-$24.99 each FP- Vtech book. Since Kindle Fire is so inexpensive I'm not worry about her dropping it at all.I had ipad 10" but I love Samsung galaxy 8.6" better because it is much easier to hold and carry every where. Most importantly it uses android os so I can view pretty much any files I want without converting through itune first which takes extra time.

Speaking from experience I guess. Good for you!!!

Please address the issue of applications. That is, most of these are designed for Apple products and are not transferable to other products, such as kindle, etc.Is there some way that we can have more universal applications?Thank you

Have you ever used an Ipad? It might all be IOS but there are not all the same. Go use an Ipad and then use your iphone or touch and you'll see!
