iPhone Dev Team release the Pwnage Tool
The iPhone Dev Team have released their much awaited Pwnage Tool which I had talked a lot about here, here and also here and for the first time here. The iPhone Pwnage tool can be used to flash your iPhone so that you can jailbreak it to install and run...

does this REQUIRE you to put the phone in recovery mode? I'm on Windows so I have to wait to try myself. I simply don't like having to install all of my 'extra' software everytime I update and jailbreak. I wish I could just plug it in and pwne it. That way I can just upgrade with an pwned image, hopefully without all of my stuff dissappearing again :/
-
can you do this if you already jailbroken. I have many apps and dont want to install them again
-
@urherenow: yes, it does require u to be in recovery mode...if its not, iPwner, the tool to Pwn ur iPhone won't proceed w/ the Pwning process
@zo: yes, I did it on mine which was already jailbroken and my apps were still intact, the only thing you'll notice diff from a user-level is that the apple logo on start-up is replaced w/ a pineapple (for Pwnage)

is it completely reversible. And could possible fix some syncing issues
-
@zo - yeah just restore like you would normally
kinda pointless to do right now since they don't tell us how to build a custom ipsw file with our own customization...

I have a Jailbroken iPhone 1.1.2, can I go to 1.1.4 with Prwn? Any experience?
-
@ursus - why would you not upgrade to 1.1.4 ? you can use ZiphoneX to do everything for you ?? let's go, get with the times....

Hey Mike & Key,
Thanks for all the clarifications to fellow readers, appreciate it.
Also Key, you can checkout this post:
http://www.iphonehacks.com/2008/04/iphone-ipswtool.htmlFolks at the theiphoneproject have announced that they will be soon releasing the IPSWTool tool which will compliment the Pwnage Tool to help you create the custom iPhone firmwares.
cheers!

@IphoneHacks - yeah i see that up. i actually posted my comment the first day this came out. i guess the first Pwnage release was just to show people what they have been working on.

Apple icon changes to pineapple and some other images well I have a question, I've seen snapshots of the actual pwnage software it does have a box to make these custom images an option. I know this is a stupid question but if we don't tick the box, does that mean all images that comes out will be original unlike those that we've seen like pineapple, colurful apple etc?
-
I just wanted to check and make sure a windows version is coming out soon.
thanks
-
I've pwnage it.
How do I add apps now? I want to add vnotes.
Do I need to do something with bootloader? -
Hey seth,
It appears that you will be able to install apps when the IPSWTool is released which will help you create the custom iPhone firmware.
More details on the IPSWTool is available here:
http://www.iphonehacks.com/2008/04/iphone-ipswtool.htmlYou can checkout either ZiPhone or iLiberty rather than the Pwnage tool to jailbreak your iPhone as of now. These tools also install the Installer app which in turn will make it easier to install the native applications on your iPhone.
Checkout this post on ZiPhone:
http://www.iphonehacks.com/2008/03/iphone-ziphone3.htmlDetails about iLiberty available at the link below:

cheers!
