Apple Seeds iOS 5.1 Beta 3 To Developers; 'Enable 3G' Settings Toggle is Back; Encrypts Ramdisks
While we wait for Apple to release iOS 5.0.2 to fix the remaining bugs that is affecting battery life, it has seeded the third beta version of iOS 5.1 to developers of iOS developer program.
iOS 5.1 beta 3 (build 9B5127a) is available for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad 1, 3rd gen iPod touch and 4th gen iPod touch, but seems to be currently available only via over-the-air updates so it is not clear what new features and improvements Apple has introduced in this version.

I have an Iphone also.
-
guess the 3G toggle is one way to save battery life.
-
Yea but on the other hand what u gonna do with the Edge...
-
What that means about 3g toggle settings? I have always had it.
-
Edge is still effective when in very crowded areas such as sports venues, concerts, etc. I always turn 3G off so my texts can get through
-
Same, but it is all dependent on your network and the carrier settings you receive when you sync your iphone with itunes. For example on the three network in the uk you are unable to turn off 3g whereas on tesco or orange you are.
-
With this update will we be able to turn 3G off on the three network on the iPhone 4S? Also only 3G works for the Internet on my iPhone 4S any ideas why?
-
Finally! I NEED to turn my 3G off at home, because my signal hangs between 3G and 2G, meaning I can rarely make calls. It's killing my battery when it's permanently trying to keep or find 3G too!
-
if ur jailbroken dwnload sbsettings or some kinda 3rd party app from cydia :)
-
Text comes through GSM not data. If you use iMessage than it uses 3G to assist. Either way turning on or off 3G or data does not affect text.
-
What do you mean rarely make calls? Data has nothing to do with calls. If it bothers you turn off your data.

I have 5.0.1 and have a 3G button in my settings. Really don't know what the difference is in 5.1's 3G button? To my knowledge, it never went away.
-
Just read over at modmyi that 4s didn't come with a 3G button in settings. That explains it.
-
Great and still no Jailbreak for 4S

I don't think there will ever be iOS 5.0.2, rather the battery issue should be fixed when ios 5.1 comes out. On top of that, I don't have any battery drain issues at all.
-
Apple has lost the plot of Steve was alive he would not let this battery shambles go on for so long
-
What about the invalid sim issues people are getting? There have 300,000 people on the apple forums already complaining and god knows how many others and still no genuine fix.
-
I also had problems with this, not being able to access the internet unless on 3G where ever I was in the UK. I got my iPhone 4S unlocked and went to Tesco Mobile, which runs on the O2 network. I got 5000 texts, 500 mins, 1GB 2G/3G internet and """Unlimited""" (1GB) BT Openzone data for 12.50 if you are wanting to switch. Just if you do, make sure you unlock your phone. Then once it has been unlocked, get your PAC code, as if you do this the other way round, your phone will not be unlocked. 3 customer service is a nightmare. Hope this helps

Why did Apple remove the 3G option for 4S phones in the first place!!! It just doesn't make any sense! I need to have this option in order to avoid dropped calls. It's not like we normally ask the sales person if a specific smart phone has the option to toggle 3G. It's a standard setting on all phones!!! God I hate it when such decisions take place!!

3G has much to do with calls on iOS 5. The way apple has coded it, having 3G on or off affects your ability to make or receive calls in some areas. It's a huge problem with many folks like me who get the hanging end call screen when making calls. The solution given by our carriers? Turn on 3G, which really works brilliantly. As long as 3G is on, our phones function like normal, and calls and SMS get through.
