Liquipel Claims it Can Make Your iPhone Waterproof Without a Case
This sounds to good to be true, but Liquipel claims that they can make your iPhone (or any other device) waterproof without a case, with a process that applies a patent pending waterproof coating on the iPhone to protect it from water or liquids.
Liquipel explains how it works:

...and if it fails? Then you're in a bit of a bad position I'd say. Or maybe it's just a clever marketing scheme, because no one would be dumb enough, even if they actually got this done, to volunteer to drop their phone into a vat of water. Who knows. I sure as hell am not taking the chance to find out if this really works or not, unless it comes with a free replacement phone if it fails. (hah)

- Hey your service sucks, sounds like you are calling me from under water.- No, I have full service, but that's because I AM calling you from under water, look out the window I'm in the pool snorkling!
-
Hmm...I wonder if they offer a guarantee of any sort?
-
TheiPhone has no clothes.
-
First thought. How does this affect heat dissipation of the device? I assume this will also void the warranty.
-
WOW sounds cool but they should replace it if it fails
-
It'll be in doubt untill there patents are pending i guess..!!In video also he says for headphone jack and charging point.. Bt didnt get it exactly wht they've done..
-
Sounds good ... but wondering if that could cause iPhone to overheat?!

As some one who dropped my old 3G in water this might be a good back up plan after not dropping your phone in water. But apple might just buy them out and put it in the iPhone 5s
-
iPhone 5s??? You know something the world doesn't? Last was iPhone 4s, makes sense the next will be iPhone 5!
-
you mean 6???
-
I hope you drop your iphone down the toilet whilst taking a crap, cocky moron. It's for ACCIDENTAL water exposure you ignorant turd.
-
sounds awesome, but sounds scary 0.o
-
sounds like a nice way to get a new iphone XD
-
He means iPhone 5s (plural) not iPhone 5S you dumb sh*t.
-
hahaha he called you a dumb ****!!!!
-
Sounds like class action attorneys will have a field day with this.

I saw this on the early show about 5 years ago. They had a phone treated with this stuff, dropped it in a fish tank and called it. It was pretty amazing. I never heard anything else about it and always wondered. I guess it's back! From what I saw it was pretty damn awesome. As many times as I've taken my phone swimming with me (accidentally) in sure it'd pay for itself!

i've seen a normal iphone last under water for a while, i'd like to see a side by side comparison.

ok as an electronics technician I've got some hang ups about this video. - who's to say you are not poring distilled water on the phone, distilled water is actually a pretty good insulator for those of you playing at home.- Ive repaired water damaged iP4's that have fallen in the pool or a puddle and it really depends on the type of water you drop it in as to how bad the damage will be.- most of the time when the phone goes for a swim the damage will not show up till corrosion sets in and starts shorting sh*t out. - Im assuming you are coating the motherboard and all else in a lacquer of sorts but you can't possibly tell me the points of the 30 pin iPod connecter, 3.5mm port and all the other connection from the logic board like the lcd, buttons, digitiser etc are water tight too since they need to conduct for the thing to function properly. do the same video but at the beach with salt water and i will eat my words

Good question!!! Intelligent one. They are yet to answer many questions regarding this. What's the lifetime of the protection?
-
I second your comment.

I'll stick with my Lifeproof case for now. I KNOW it's water proof and I get drop protection too...
-
That was probably Golden Shellback. They sold/licensed their patents and process to Zagg but so far nothing has come from it.

What's with all the negative comments? It is a really get idea and if it works then it will save people lots of money. While legitimate questions have been asked, enough with the instant failure comments - innovation should be encouraged not dismissed out of hand.

Wouldnt this coating affect the way sound comes out of the mini speakers? Or the way the mic picks up sound. I would imagine this coating would probably also cause the some issues for the headphone jack. Electrical continuity with the charger might be an issue. Maybe the mist coating is smart enough to avoid those key areas.
